I thought Frost cost us momentum at the end of the first Q and again at the start of the 2nd Q....he has absolutely no football IQ.

Honestly should not play again unless we are down on numbers.

We won't need him against the Tiges so Hunt should come back in.

Bugg's skills and poor decisions also cost around the same time when we had them on the mat.

Hannan back for Bugg.

...and Tyson back if recovered from virus.

    Tyson and Hunt in. For the rest, don't believe it actually matters all that much. We didn't lose today because we chose player X over player Y.

    I for one was really keen to get Frost into the side. Just thought the he would help Lever. He is the dumbest footballer. Thinks he's a tough guy, but has little to no skill. Gets caught out of position, doesn't run hard enough in both directions and constantly gives away simple free kicks. Needs to go. 

    Lever made some absolutely shocking errors today, but wasn't the only one. There were a couple of times he got smashed for putting his body on the line, the same can't be said for half our other defenders. Is he playing like a $800k defender? No. Is he playing like a guy worth two first round picks? No. He looks completely devoid of confidence. Not sure whether it's better to persevere or to send him to Casey to get some confidence. I'd say persevere for now. If he gets destroyed on ANZAC eve then they have to make the call.

    My problem is we have too many of the same type of player in the forward line. Harmes, ANB, Melksham & Bugg (and Kent but he is at least effective at the moment). They are rotating through the midfield and high half forward and today they were all pretty average. ANB looks ok on the stats sheet, not sure how effective he actually was. 

     

    Anyway, I would say -

     

    In - Tyson, Hunt, Perderson, Hannan

     

    Out - Frost, Melksham, Harmes, Bugg

    Yes, especially as Jones was busy with Mitchell. But Salem was OK - as many clearances as Oliver. Really missing Viney.

    Saw no evidence of physical disturbance of his ex team mates.

    Our biggest asset is our biggest weakness.. We have so many B grade players we cant fit them all in the side where as other teams need to play C graders or worse. B graders are great,  they can perform well on any day but they cant be relied on to win you games. We just don't have enough A graders that perform week in, week out. Gawn, Hogan and Oliver cant just do it all alone. And our other A grader, Viney is weeks away even if he doesn't have another setback. Hibbard and Lever both should be close to if no at A grade level but are so far off their best. Until we get more players that are reliable Goody is stuck with the impossible job of predicting which 18 B/C graders will perform on a particular week. If you assume Tyson returns from illness, you could mount a case for any of Hannan, Stretch, Pedo, Weid, Hunt, Maynard, Balic, Smith x2 coming in and playing well. But it's anyone's guess who.

    Can someone who attends fill me in on Harmes' role this year? He was slowing improving last year after settling forward somewhat. But now seems to be mostly in contests around the wing. Marking is well down as well. I wonder if we can move him to whatever it is Melksham is supposed to be doing and then give Harmes' role to Hunt? Also, turnovers or not, we still need more (Tyson) experience in the midfield and Bernie and Lewis are past it.

    Then we have the problems with our defense and the specific Richmond forward set-up. I usually don't resort to discussing the psychology of footballers but I'm concerned about the effect the flak will have on player and team if we were to demote Lever. Still, he has to come out to relieve the pressure and find some touch. And at least we can find out if Hibberd and Jetta are a form or a structural issue.

    At this early stage:

    outs:  Lever, Frost, ANB, Lewis, 

    Ins:  Tyson, keilty to debut, Hunt, Weideman/stretch

    Brayshaw plays back, Keilty replaces Lever, Hunt replaces Frost, weideman to give us structure, and chop out for Max, or stretch for outside speed.

    lots of others on very thin ice.

    this weekend about 5 teams were smashed, hardly scoring.  We are not alone in the problems we have.  3rd to 12th.  If you don’t wanna play, then don’t.  No passengers.

    Don't care who comes in its all mediocrity anyway, but I don't think I can watch us with Lewis , Bugg and Melksham playing. Harmes and ANB are also wastes of space.

And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle.       There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season.
