We missed the marking target of Pedersen who should come in for Melksham.

I like Melksham as a forward but heโ€™s out of form.

I think Pedersen is done.

Weed is the option if he shows some form or we stay small until Tommy Mac is ready.

ย

NO CHANGES

B: LEVER, O.MCDONALD, J.WAGNER

HB: HIBBERD, FROST, VINCE

C: J.LEWIS, OLIVER, JONES

HF: KENT, PETRACCA, BUGG

F: GARLETT, HOGAN, FRITSCH

FOLL: GAWN, TYSON, SALEM

IC: MELKSHAM, NEAL-BULLEN, JETTA, HARMES

EMERG: HUNT

BRAYSHAW, WEIDEMAN, HANNAN

Hunt comes in for Vince if injured. Jetta and Frost will get off the tribunal.

If Brayshaw plays well again tomorrow for Casey, then heโ€™ll come in.ย

Hunt is in our best 22 and hopefully he regains some form.ย

We have to cover Poppy, Cyril,ย Impey and Breust.ย I amย hoping Hunt has a blinder tomorrow and find a way to fit him in.ย

I wonder about OBaker & about Dion. as defensive players.

We seem to be doing a Richmond.

1 tall forward,ย  1 ruckman and Shaun Griggย type to just compete.

What has Hawthorne been doing the last 2 years? Just Roughy ?ย  And a follower in the ruck.

Not very tall, forward?ย  very mobile and nippy.

ย

I wonder if we need that extra tall (Frost) against the Hawks?

edit: Alternatively, maybe TSmith could be a handy tweener for the hawks matchups.

Hasnt sicily been in AA form already as intercept defender? Would assume we need a tall target or to have someone take him out of the play.

Bugg may go to him.

I not seen it mentioned. ..but Alex Neale Bullen should be an out this week he pulled out of multiple contests today. Not good enough. ย I'd take brayshawย

Lol. I meant run him somewhere else. Dont want a repeat of last year with was it Ryan Burton. Marking everything

Why wouldn't Bugg do that?

why was lever taking the kickouts??? he is not a strong kick. bloody ludicrous. it shouldn't be anyone other than hibberd.

lewis is prone to the old shank.ย

Was wondering the same thing Dr.ย  That was a huge blunder early in the match.ย  Thankfully the brains trust switched him outta there after the 2nd or 3rd straight kick in where he hit up a Norf player.ย  Also, why would you have a player you recruited as an intercept player not out in the field of play to intercept (attempt to spoil) a miss kick or hopefully get on the end of a kick in as another tall target for the designated kicker?

Nev, Vince & Salem only pls.ย  Hibberd i havent seen enough of in this role yet to have any confidence but seems another likely go to.

I reckon we missed Pedo today.

With Hogan up the ground / midfield we, particularly early, didn't know where to kick. Pedo, or even Weid, if he is up to it, would give us a focus and someone for the crumbers to feed off.

We cant rely on the likes of Kent, Bugge and Garlett to be major goalkickers every week.ย

I think that depends on how much pressure the opposition bring and/or how clean we are at hitting targets and/or putting it to the favoured side of our forwards to run on to Uncle.

If we continue to get a stack of ball inside 50 and lower our eyes a fair bit, then the small medium forwards you mentioned will get their chances and hopefully take them.ย  We also have Tracc who can play tall but with the agility of a medium small.ย  Very hard to match up on and keep quiet, especially when we kick well.

I would agree with you about Pedo but he needs to be "on" more often in a match.ย  Seems to go missing for a quarter here or there and occasionally a big chunk of a match like last week.ย  Conditions in 2nd half probably didn't suit him however.

The other issue is by not having Pedo in a CHF role,ย  it kind of forces the mids and others bringing the ball in to work a bit harder at lowering eyes and trying to find a target, rather than just doing the easy bomb which we have tended to do too much of in the past.ย  The flip side is that we might need to bomb it in more often when playing a better team than Norf in the coming weeks that are better at putting pressure on in the middle etc which then suggests Pedders needs to be in at CHF.

When Pedo is "on" he is still handy and can bring the ball to the feet of the smalls as well as taking the relief ruck duties for Maxy.ย  I would wait for him to find form at Casey though before bringing back.ย  If he does knock the door down i would be looking at Melksham who appears to be a tad off his best for mine at the moment.ย  But that could change in the next week or so also!

I agree. We need another tail forward. If weid plays ok at Casey Iโ€™d put him in, particularly as he appears to have put on weight and is starting to do some ruck work. Max needs some support. We will run him into the ground if we are not careful.

Agree. And having Harmes and Trac rucking is just plain stupid.. Milkshake a shadow of last year's (and AFLX) form.

Thought we looked super-messy in the forward-50. A small profile may be fine but perhaps there's too many of them in there?

I would bring Pedo back in as a utility for coverage but I don't think it's happening. We also need more leg-speed.

Melksham out - was much improved after a trot around Casey last year as well.

Hunt in - get him up to the wings to get his hands on the ball and shake the forward tag.ย

Why? The bloke wasn't even an emergency this weekend.ย ย

And who would you drop? Very hard to make changes to a side that wins by 6 goals.ย

ANB and Harmes have both been disappointing.

Melkshamย  doesn't have a goal yet to his name which is disappointing, though hes getting to the right spots.

Thee are spots available for anyone that dominates at Casey.

What worked against North yesterday isnโ€™t necessarily going to work against Hawthorn next week. Iโ€™d feel more comfortable with an extra tall to play forward and give Max some relief in the ruck. Cam Pedersen and Sam Weideman will be looked at closely at Coburg today.

Earlier in yesterdayโ€™s game we were a bit iffy against outside pace but we settled down and once tiredness crept into the game, we were fine. Still, a few players will be interesting - Hunt and Brayshaw in particular.ย

With the idea of outside pace in mind, I gave some thought last week to the possible surprise inclusions of one of Oskar Baker or Charlie Spargo but theyโ€™re probably not ready by half a season at least and those fairytale debuts donโ€™t happen any more.ย

I like ANB and Harmes as players but they just haven't quite been there this year.ย

Assuming Hunt & Brayshaw dominate in the VFL they will come in for ANB & Harmes.ย

This will be my first game at the MCG in about 4 years so pretty excited for this one!!ย

ย

I seem to remember Oโ€™Brien? (Tall orange haired dude) taking lots of marks last year in their forward line. Think we may need another tall - pedo I guess

Oโ€™Brien is now playing as a defender for them

Their set up is remarkably traditional - Roughead and Gunston are their talls with small support in Cyril, Poppy, Breust and Impey down forward, then Frawley and Oโ€™Brien as key defenders, ably supported by midsize runners in Burton, Hardwick and Stratton

It all starts at the coalface tho - McEvoy, Mitchell and Oโ€™Meara are in great form, Shiels is relishing beingย starting rover, and Henderson and Smith provide great runย

I would think we wonโ€™t make any changes to face them, but if we were to do so those under most pressure to hold their spot would be ANB, Melksham and Harmes

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old sideโ€”the Tigersโ€”coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking?ย I mean by โ€œtheyโ€ the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.Itโ€™s no secret that the Demonsโ€™ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack.ย Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryanโ€™s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winningย 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
