I liked Goodwin's comments after the game that they had embraced the hoodoo and he had spoken about this being an opportunity to continue to change the culture around the footy club.  We've allowed to be beaten mentally for too long, and this is another step on our way to being a mature team that embraces a challenge, rather than allowing it to consume us.

A different approach to last year where he refused to acknowledge it.

Some random thoughts.

The opening 15 minutes we were running 3-4 spares out of the backline, leaving Daw  all alone and then we kick it high to a contest. It made him look good and let them get out of our forwrd zone too easy. When the ball came out once it got past our zone they got goals out the back. We played much better with a man on man contest and fixed up the issue

North got a lot of goals from frees in what was one of the worst displays of umpiring I have seen this year. The free to Ben Brown for a ruck infringement late in the 2nd left me stunned yet 2 minutes later when Goldy shepherds Max out of the contest no whistle. Fortunately Bugg got take high and promptly missed with his free after the siren

We still miss a lot of set shots and Trac is better on the run

I like Clarry resting up forward. Jacobs wore him like a second skin and limited his possession but his 2 goals int he last quarter show what a weapon he can be resting up forward.

At round 3 we still have a lot of room for improvement espcially our forward efficiency but I expect Tommy Mac will straighten that up on his return.

Scott Thompson is a thug. His punch to Jessies head on the final siren is typical of his style for his whole career. I hope it gets reviewed

Re our use of two extra players running off the back of the square at centre bounces, Luke Ball on 774 was non plussed. He said we were winning the centre clearances 2 to 1 yet we’re then kicking into an out numbered forward set up, allowing Daws to look good. If you are dominating clearances why not man up in the forward line. Not sure how often the two extras running off half back had an impact at centre bounces though.

And if Hogan is going to play up the field we need another tall up forward. And did I hear correctly that Harmes and Trac were pinch hitting in the ruck? Bring back Pedo I think until TMac is fit.

Having not seen the entire game it's hard to comment completely, but if we didn't get torn apart in the ruck by a side featuring Goldstein and Brown, do we really need Pedersen back?

I like Neal-Bullen, but he dropped numerous easy uncontested marks today due to perceived pressure.

Agreed. But it’s not normally his go, plus his gut running I thought was outstanding.

Got back after the game and some relaxing drinks at dads house. Was an enjoyable game. They caught us by surprise and we were guilty of some poor disposals, but overall a good win. Showed we are able of snubbing a comeback. The roo hoodoo is hooroo and thank goodness for that. Must never let a streak like that happen ever again. Well played boys.

Thank goodness, no wearing bunny ears at work on Monday!

Also, really liked Salem's aggression today. Added a welcome spice to the contest.

I've only watched the 1st half on replay but Salem has been very good so far, seems like his most complete game to date.

Very true.  It could be a clear indication for us as supporters that Goody is willing to change things up.  No doubt his approach towards the game worked, as did his selections.

I know some like to knock him, and he can make himself an easy target at times, but today showed that the bloke can coach, can make the right changes and be the first bloke since The Reverend to coach us to a win over North.

How good is Oliver? Even when he has a “quiet” game he still gets 5 clearances, 8 goal involvements and 2 goals. If he was anyone else you’d say he was BOG, but because it’s Oliver we just go “yeah he was fine I guess”.

Kid is a damn freak!

Thank you selectors (and so glad no representatives from Demonland were on the selection committee)!  ?

Now the real question is, do I spend the next 8 hours and 45 minutes on the plane watching the replay 3 times, or do I sleep because I have 7 straight days of work ahead?

Good point but still worry about our small forward set up especially when we insist on kicking long into the forward line time and time again often without a tall to at least bring the ball to ground. The Hawks backline will have a field day  ext week picking off the high entries to no tall targets.  More than happy if our mids lowered their eyes to target our small forwards on the lead but they don’t.

No, with an important work period coming up you'll need to sort your priorities- get some quality sleep now and watch the replay at work.

Just wish MFC had the balls to challenge the AFL umpires dept regarding Max. Being raped and pillaged by them. Does he really gives them too much "verbal" and their little "pea-brains" remember that and penalise him. Very frustrating to watch but not nearly as frustrating for Max to cope with.

Matty Nicholls had him blackballed after this.

Seriously? The ones who've been saying all along that Lever isn't a key defender and needs Frost in the side?

We'd be 3-0 if Demonland selected the side.

Very good win by the Dees!

Umpiring disgraceful. Some incredibly poor decision both ways but North got more than half their goals from frees. Fritsch non Mark mystifying!

Lever had a better game and uses the ball well.

I’m anti Wagner but he played well today, didn’t run around like a headless chook.

Seemed like a really even team effort, with better players previously named by other posters!

Happy Day!!

I think Jetta could be in trouble.

If Brown went off for some length of time, or it drew blood, then I'd be worried.  Brown played out the game without trouble.  I reckon he got him high on the chest coming up to the chin.  I think he'll be okay.

I think Brown put mayo on it, just not confident it will go our way.

Brown putting mayo on physical contact? Impossible?!

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
