In writing this keep in mind I don’t have an eye for the defensive side of the game so a player I think has done very well might have played his role poorly.  Also the opposition was poor.  At times they had a go but really it was a bit like watching the first quarter of the MFC v Saints JLT game.  We played well and dominated and in those circumstances it’s hard to know if the domination is us or them but I was impressed by the general skill level, the commitment and particularly the cohesion of the team play.

Thanks Voges for the reports.  enjoyable reading.

Its always good to get others insights, especially when I can't get to games.

Is there a chance we will never see McKenna play at any level this year? Also I think Vandenburgs time is up which is a pity as I loved watching him play.

Not yet, He's just got himself back into running outside this week, I think, first in a long time.

He's had a stress fracture of the Heel.

Not normally a career-ender, IMO.

Koby Stevens had this as well back in July 2015, whilst at the Bulldogs.

I had a chat to Pat at training, was sent to see a hammy specialist in Canberra, back running so now his pre season starts, so 8 to 10 weeks

Of course like Viney and Tommy Mc one step at a time, has been kept busy by the club

The coaching staff rate him, just needs to get on the park

Hopes vanders can get back, I remember one of the early games he played as a mid against the Bulldogs he dominated. Still has a fair bit to offer if he could get himself right.

Frost surely has to come back in next week, if we play 1 on 1 with Ben Brown our holes will become very enlarged.

Have to play with a spare a defender against the Roos, the guy has plenty of run and dare.

So true

Frost has a role to play in our best 22, when we are playing forward lines that hurt us. We can then use lever as the 3rd tall and play his natural role.

Looks like we will have Frosty back to play on Ben Brown...........

Why do people think Frosty will be back to play on Ben Brown.

Frosty is not a good body on body player and pretty average in the air.

He'll play on Waite leave Oscar to deal with the big boys.

not to play on Ben Brown specifically but to help out and create some run and overlap we look so slow and ball movement is lethargic.

We need Frost next week, so Omac can take Brown, Frost to Waite. Lever chipping in.

But the biggest job will be done by our mids, defensively; and the half forwards.

Once again the VFL scheduling leaves a lot to be desired.

With 4 emergencies being required in Brisbane, senior players will wait yet another week for some match practice. It could have been played on Sunday or even Monday.

Would love to hear how the VFL schedule is integrated into the senior schedule if at all.

VFL is really a pathetic parody of a “support” competition

As #32 Vagg said, it is seriously important for the AFL to get off their backsides and start a reserves competition.

What a horrible prospect ?

And we could easily lose too.

Will next week's team be this:

B: PETTY, HUTCHINS, WHITE

HB: J.WAGNER, KEILTY, J.SMITH

C: C.WAGNER, MAYNARD, STRETCH

HF: BALIC, T.SMITH, BUGG

F: SCOTT, WEIDEMAN, LEFAU

FOLL: KING, SALEM, KENNEDY HARRIS

IC: GENT, MUNRO, BAKER, SPARGO, UNDER 21 PLAYER

HANNAN SENIOR EMERGENCY

It looks a strong side a premiership winning side in fact.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
