Once again the VFL scheduling leaves a lot to be desired.

With 4 emergencies being required in Brisbane, senior players will wait yet another week for some match practice. It could have been played on Sunday or even Monday.

Would love to hear how the VFL schedule is integrated into the senior schedule if at all.

I think the last three words cover it DJ. The fact there was no Casey game last week shows how poorly the reserves competition is organised.

The next VFL game occurs after we have played round 3 which means the emergencies will get a run but the flip side is that in a period when the seniors have played 3 games the emergencies (which are those on the cusp of selection) have not had one game in which to display and hone their skills.

The only bit of selection news I have is Keilty's rib pain has become manageable and he'll be playing in the game tomorrow

Out of curiosity has there been discussions in the past about altering the VFL season to be in line with the AFL?

How ridiculous that we are into Round 2 and the VFL is still in practice matches. Surely this is a simple fix??

Agreed!  A very good reason to implement a National AFL Reserves comp!

Casey 53 v Frankston 14. Quarter time.

best: Brayshaw, Hannan, Balic, JKH, Kent. Actually we look great with not a weak player. Baker and Spargo look good.

More at at half time.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
