Im in a coal mine.  Lots of Queenslanders working here.

If I had kids anywhere near the Sunshine Coast, they would be going to training. They can do without one day of gender identity indoctrination,.

There was a sense of sarcasm in my comment.  Also a sense of honesty - had a couple of bosses comment how they love hiring Victorians in Queensland because we are hard workers!

The mines are a different beast, mainly because for the locals, it's all they know, and it's a very financially "rewarding" job.

Born and raised in the Goulburn Valley, Vic, moved to Queensland at 31.

The locals here are ok, just a little slower than Vics, and clueless when it comes to any sport other than Thugby League.......

We do have 2 games up at the Gabba this year, which is great. I was hoping to get his new Jersey some signatures when they were at the Sunny Coast.

There might be someone from the Qld Dees supporter group who you can post it to, so they can get some autographs for you?

Not the same as in person, but better than nothing.

Anyone?

As a Brisbane-based supporter, very disappointed with this. Not bagging the club as being hopeless or anything, but as others have said, this has been scheduled for the Saturday morning each of the last 3-4 years and been a big success with 300-400 attending and plenty of local media exposure.

We drive up every year and my two young boys love it, being one of the highlights of the year. They've been asking me for weeks when it'll be and are now very confused. I appreciate the footy department comes first but scheduling it for Friday instead of the traditional Saturday is actually worse than not having one at all and just claiming the week is a closed one.

I see there's plenty of Demonlanders taking the pi$$ and seeing no issue. That's a complete lack of understanding of how successful the Saturday sessions have been in the past and the exposure the Dees have been able to have with young kids , local media and the general footy community up here.

Really feels like an own-goal.

I would've thought they'd switch it back to a Saturday as soon as they realised their mistake. So this hasn't been changed?

someone needs to get the aflpa involved?

They probably did, dc, to get the session moved from Saturday to Friday on the grounds their contracts only allow for weekend work over the winter.

There must be a plausible reason for the change.  Otherwise it makes little sense to have the open session at a time when most people are either working or at school.  What difference does it make if it's on a Saturday morning as opposed to a Friday morning?

Hopefully something changes by the time the camp rolls around so you guys up QLD way can get there!

I have attended the past two Maroochydore Camps and it usually takes place a little earlier in January. Several AFL clubs compete for times at this facility and it may not have been possible for MFC to get the dates they wanted. Also, Qld Term dates are earlier than Vic schools, so the Qld kids are already back for Term 1.

There’s no room for your reasoning here Wayne. More outrage or get out.

The Dees camp goes until 5 Feb so no other clubs are using the facility on the Saturday.  It's usually the first Saturday in February (last two years anyway) and kids have always been back at school by then.

Only reason I can see is that the Footy Dept decided they wanted the Saturday to be a closed session or have the boys doing something else that day. As I said above, I'm disappointed with the decision but can also understand the Footy Dept having the final say.

Club presumably has a significant reason for the change.

Just a question.

The players won't play on their day off?

Was planning on going but yeah, nah Friday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Another quality Melbourne "feels like an own goal" Demons moment.

I would have thought after the club's last pizzweak Saturday outing (ie 26 Aug 2017), they would be pretty keen to practice performing on Saturdays wherever possible.

The fact that this is a training session in Queensland in February is completely irrelevant.

I'm sick of this club do everything it can to upset loyal supporters by holding training sessions, practice matches and other functions during business hours.

Without members and supporters, this club is nothing. The powers that be would do well to acknowledge this occasionally.

Yep, they would never think about coming up and playing all to themselves on Daintree Oval, which is used for nothing else, because of too many crocs and snakes roaming around. Plenty of guns here to protect them though, because they have weekend celebratory shoot offs. A far more sane area of FNQ......

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
