As an observer from afar only seeing Spargo play seniors, wooooh,  this kid has it in spades.

I love this kid. Rarely wastes it. Great peripheral vision and game sense. Tough as nails and a great side step. Incredible to think he's only played a handful of games.

yes his kicking is reliable and decision making very good. He is a natural. I wish he had more toe but hey you can't have everything.

Our first two draft picks last year were 29 (Spargo) and 31 (Fritsch) and both are already getting regular games in their first season.

That's what I call good drafting.

The impressiveness of it comes from the fact they are 18 and 21 respectively - this is not a couple of role players plucked from State leagues. They are expansive, skilful talents.

Is a wonderful representation of how good us smaller folk can be (You 6Ft+ giants have had it good for far too long)

Happy we have recruited true footballers not basketballers or plain old athletes

This guy is pure footballer

Love watching him play

Waiting for some genius to come up with ” Prince.”

At the Carlton game a bloke a few rows behind me was calling him 'Spartacus'.

The kid is 18 years old, his ability to get away from his man and find space around the ground and inside 50 is fantastic.

I was in shock when he shrugged Marcus Adams off in a marking contest. Very unlucky not to grab it as it bounced off his chest, but he actually two-arm stiffed armed him over. Was incredible.

Agree, just watched the replay of the match, Charlie doesn’t take a backward step!

And to all those who said he was too small - phooey! The kid’s fitted in really well, he and Fitsch were really great pickups.

Not a bad winning percentage either. I think he is 8 wins from 9 games.

like him a lot.. looks like a player that wouldn't choke in the big moments. you'd have to have him in the team should they arise in the coming years. other teams clearly underestimate him too. its great.

Chance of a Rising Star nomination this week?

My tip is Stefan Giro.

Yep.  It will be Giro or even Matt Guelfi.

The one thing that will keep Spargo from a Rising Star Nom is that he isn't flashy and he doesn't get a huge amount of the ball.  He just works his backside off, hits the scoreboard and does it all with minimal fuss.  Love what he brings to the side.

It’s great to have 2 newbies in Spargo and Fritsch that know how to use the ball. Because of that they don’t have to have a zillion possessions to impact.

Spargo seems very focussed, concentrates and doesn’t go in for extravagant celebrations.

Love watching Charlie and Bayley play. Great recruiting

Goes alright this kid..

Looking forward to when hes built his tank enough to move into his natural midfield position.   Hes already shown he can be a dangerous crumber when resting inside 50. Very smart player.

Just as good in the midfield then he is up forward.

Can see him developing into a Cotchin or Boomer Harvey type. Has that natural zip we often lack.

Wait till he plays 50 games, will explode I reckon.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
