Had a closer look. Of the 4 we took, I'm most excited about this guy. I think he's got the skill set to succeed in a League that's going to get quicker and quicker... But also because he has what we need badly. Pace.

No Ginger Baker/Cream gags. Disappointing.

I think Ginger Rogers (aka Tina Louise) with that mop:

So now I have to self-qoute from another thread just to stay in the race . . .

It's not particularly creative, but I'm just gonna leave 'Obak' here as a digital record of my potentially being the first in the door. Though his wild red mane is somewhat reminiscent of a certain Stars Wars character, so I'll add 'Obacca' or 'Chewbaker' here just to cover the more creative neological bases.

Just to ensure Demonland isn't accused of fake news, Tina Louise's character was called Ginger Grant. (Fred Astaire used to dance with Ginger Rogers.)

A haircut would bring this all to fruition, given that the base model displays so much talent. Might even make him more speedy when he sees where he is going....

Jayden will give him a headband. Problem solved.

Of course, why didn't I think of that?

Much as I dislike him (probably because he plays for Norf and usually carves us up) but the locks haven’t done Ben Brown too much harm.

Not sure why he was cut from brisbane Academy but he looks well balanced, has some pace and hits targets. Clearly the FD have kept an eye on him

Erm, looks like the guy on the left with modified hair...Beavis-And-Butt-head-640x379.jpg.7055891b87b4d3b6390c2930113f0b9f.jpg

I thought we traded Fitzpatrick?

The ball is about to hit his hands instead of bouncing off his face.

It aint Fitzy

From the highlights that we've all seen, this kid looks exciting.  If he lives up to that promise, and retains his flowing locks, he'll add to our growing list of cult heroes quicker than you can say 'ginger ninja'.  That's got to be a good thing!

Like the look of him, seems to have really good balance and likes to take the game on (fits our style). Also appears to be a competitor, with some of those tackles in the video, but best of all his body will be ready for the rigours of AFL life already.

Welcome Oskar!

(Side note, the pic of Chewbacca next to him made me laugh so much. I'd love for his nickname to be Chewy shortened from Chewbaker!)

When rumours circulated we were into Baker I was worried we'd use our first pick on him and thought it was the wrong move. Turns out we landed him with our last pick at 47. He's definitely got great pace and agility, question will be how it holds up under AFL level pressure. Though his highlights look excited, there is bugger all defensive pressure in the NEAFL and it almost looked like they were playing touch footy at times :P He doesn't mind laying a tackle though and looks competitive so he'll give it a red hot crack.

Of all our draftees this year I'm hoping Baker makes it. He's got exactly what our midfield needs: pace. Welcome Oskar!

Baker provides solid depth, knows the game plan our culture and must get on well with players and coaches.?

The reality is we need back-up depth in all positions in case of injuries. At worst it may result in a VFL Premiership for them if they don’t make the first 23.

Players like Baker, Weidman, Tomlinson, Chandler, Jordon, Daw, etc, sitting in the wings and training together is sound planning and will ensure that we have no speed humps next year!

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
