Slightly harsh there, D11.  Others are welcome to their views on Jack.  If you read through this thread I don't think you'll find a more divisive player in the competition in terms of the player we think he is, what he brings to our side and what he might be worth in a trade.

The one thing that makes Jack stand out in this case, and why so many feel strongly about him, is because he seems like a ripping bloke and he genuinely loves the club, even if some of his efforts on field don't necessarily reflect that at times.  He's a little different to the rest and we've invested so much time and effort into his career.

I'm not disagreeing with the club in terms of moving him on, but at the same time I understand where others are coming from.  They are certainly not peanuts.

Whilst I agree with this, you can only take those individuals so far.  Maybe Goodwin believes he has gotten as far as he can with Jack, and if he is still not meeting the expectations the club has set in place after 9 years in the system, then they may need to set an example in this situation by moving him on.  A behaviour ignored is a behaviour condoned, and if we continue to allow Jack to not commit himself fully to the club (as has been discussed) then we need to make a clean break.

Strangley and I only mention this as you have: so it's a point of conversation, those elements have NEVER come into view about how I see Jack. I only care what ANY of them do on the ground.

I think it's more that we have a soft spot for him, and maybe I should have used those words.  We've invested in him as a number 1 pick, the kids absolutely love him and it seems as though the players love him as well.  What isn't there to like?  It's easy to feel attached to certain players to an extent, and Jack is certainly one of those.

its an interesting aspect.  I left much of my frustrations about this lad back in the bin a few years ago having realised the #1 aspect was a bust , that he'd only ever be what he is and to just reboot anew my views on him. Since doing that  i just see him as a decent role player with many skills lacking in half our team. That hes be asked at times to branch out far beyond his comfort zone and in the main responded well ( or above ) i feel warrants kudos.

He is rather unique. He's still lambasted and lumped with the Pick 1 monicker and the sins of yesteryear just aren't forgiver by many. I rate him as a decent ancillary player. I can't imagine just what we'd get as value in return and so consider a trade as folly.

Football Coaches and Departments have their favourites and their whipping boys. I sense the club is about to make a mistake. It wont be our first or last. Look where we are.

Yes he is a classy player and sure after the siren in a grand final I would want him to be kicking for goal, however how many goals will he cost us in that grand final with his terrible 1 on 1 efforts and not being able to stick a tackle? 

My guess is he will get traded to a bottom feeder club, cash in and end his career something like Dale Thomas minus the premiership. 

Happy for him to play as he did prior to the hammy for a year and a half. No need to talk about potential. I know what he can do. And it is not what you build a team on. But that is ok, great teams need balance and they need role players. I will take the bad with the good because the good is what we don't have much of. At all.*

*This trade period has to deliver a ready made player of sublime skill that can find a role in the best 22. Doubly so if Watts is moved on.

I would keep him (for the proposed trades) and I don't even think he will propell us anywhere.

Team balance is becoming important now that Oliver, Viney, T Mac, Hibberd, Petracca , etc are propelling us up the ladder.

I am a coach and I have won flags with 'soft' blokes you 'gotta get rid of', there are roles for different types of players who specialise in different aspects of the game. 

Love me some role players (I was one).

Very fair comment, but on the lead he doesn't get the yips, it's when he's in a pack. His lack of confidence in this area has become entrenched. Noone better to dob the goal from a set shot a la Peter Mckenna.
