I never actually said anywhere in my post you don't need to be able to kick.

I'm saying being an elite kick at TAC and underage level means very little in terms of being able to use those skills at the next level due to panicking under pressure.

Think Strauss and Maric vs Matt Crouch and Sam Powell Pepper.

Yes it's a skill in the game but there are other far more important traits to look for in a player

STMJ will know what I'm talking about here

1. Speed- leg speed, acceleration and/or decision making

2.Good Size - height and/or frame

3. Impact - ball use and/or contested impact

4. Skill - hand, foot and vision

5. Game sense

6. Workrate - endurance, repeat effort, DRIVE/DESIRE

Tick 3 or more of those and you're likely to be a player at a fairly decent level and worth a look at. Dependent on how many or which particular ones you tick and that determines your draft position.

Sloane, Danger, Fyfe tick a few of those boxes...none are great kicks but they seem to go ok.

Yep and IMO ticking 3 & 6 are the two most important

I'd say Sloane, for example, ticks 2, 3 and 6. You could argue our Jonesboy does too. Both B+ graders on the cusp of A. If you add 5 or 4 to that mix, that'd tip you over into A grade IMO.

Judd - ticks all 6

Ablett - ticks all 6

Buddy - ticks all 6

You tick 5 criteria and you're going to be a champion of the game. You tick 4 criteria with 6 being one of them and IMO barring injury you're likely to be an A grader

Gotta disagree with you on Sloane. Clear A grader for me.

I know there are some on here who will agree with you though.

Yep, agreed. Seems you've got a solid 6 step guide there, mate.

Each to their own, mate. Sloane doesn't step up in those clutch moments IMO. His skills aren't great and he's not fast either. I'd argue Jones is the better player. Where do you rate Jonesy on the grade scale?

At his best Jonesy was a B+ player. I say was, because i feel he has regressed ever so slightly over the last couple of seasons.

Jones B+

Sloane is a clear A.

I think we have had this conversation before. Happy to disagree.

Not sure if "Game sense" means kicking to a forwards benefit, but Rory Sloane does this regularly. Nate Jones has done it but is more likely to bomb it.

Sloane is most definitely an A-grader and a better footballer than Nathan Jones.

Nathan Jones is a Mel"born"e footballer and captain of our club through his endeavours, tried and true, red and blue.

At this stage Jake is only an interstate addition !

Jack Trengove  was a Mel"born"e footballer and captain of our club through his endeavours, tried and true, red and blue.

At this stage Jack is now only an interstate export (when he could have led the Casey Demons to a Premiership in 2018)!

This conversation was enjoyable until the checklist of numbers turned into letters. Grades are fixed catergories across a spectrum of performance - arguing over their subjective margins into shoe-horned definitives is a waste of everyone's breath.

So knightmare over at Big Footy has us selecting

29 Melbourne - Toby Wooller
Height, Weight:
 193cm, 90kg
Summary Profile: Strong-bodied key forward who provides a marking presence. Just as capable as a big bodied, ball-winning midfielder.

Petruccelle seems to be a little 'Peter Daicos-y', no? He'd be a great pick-up but our draw ain't too good. If only there was another Leoncelli!

sounds interesting... I like the idea of a big mid fielder. If the scrum game plan continues the strong mid fielder becomes a valuable player

His AFL quality attributes are common knowledge amongst those that have followed/watched him in the flesh this year.

I can only assume that you, like others, have formed your opinion from the vision of one Vic Metro game that’s floating around which of course in isolation is quite underwhelming.

If not, then it’s me that’s baffled. Because I rate your football knowledge and I know you’d rate his ability.

Nail on head.

Only watched the highlights & was severely underwhelmed. Should have mentioned that. However, I tend to look for cleanliness as a key indicator & he looked quite sloppy even in moments when he had a bit of time. Doesn't mean he can't improve, just didn't justify the reviews imo.

Poor kid got grilled by the crows, i bet his thinking please don't let get picked by them.

Petruccelle will be a bust. Hope we don't draft him.

Gives a bit more of a glimpse into his athleticism and willingness to use his speed. Definitely a project but one I wouldn't discount just yet.

And here's another longer package. Quite a few new highlights reels released today.

Petruccelle definitely has X-Factor. Well worth taking as punt on. Only his kicking looks a little suspect. He takes the game on, has heaps of speed and is good overhead. I’d love to see him in Red and Blue

On the highlights package you would suspect he will be well gone before our first pick.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
