Fritta shouldn't be used as a FF, that's the big issue here. Against medium body players he can do well, against the bigger players unless he gets separation he gets beaten most times. When you talk about pressure on a young player @DeeZee I feel like that's the big mistake we've made, making him as our main forward target.

Agreed. I obviously have no idea what his instructions are but he needs to be on the move if playing FF. He is built like a coat hanger and will never be much bigger. Body on body against Blicavs he may as well have been running into a wall for all the impact he had. The "other" Kolo - who is a fair sized unit - absolutely rag-dolled Fritsch. So yeah, he needs separation.

Even better, don't play him as a KPF.

Needs to stop leading to the pockets and has turned into another Tmac. As soon as the ball hits the ground he applies zero pressure

That's good news.

While I thought he was slightly stiff on the weekend with that 50 metre penalty (but I'm happy to concede he shouldn't have pushed his luck), he is a very good player for us going forward.  He can play out of the square, has a good set of hands and is a very good kick of the footy (unless he's kicking for goal, although it seems he is starting to kick a little straighter as the weeks progress).

Will be an important part of our forward line in the coming years, so locking him away is the right move.

Good news on the contract extension. Weren't Collingwood and Richmond keeping an eye on him?

He'll hopefully learn his lesson from the 50 mtr penalty. Most players will do something unforgivable at least once in their career.

He's probably out best field kick after Salem. Such a natural footballer and at only 23 yrs he is set for a nice career. You always look at his body and wonder how the hell he's able to compete but he manages ok.

The conditions didn't suit his game on the weekend. He was a tad slow and off in general. Still managed 2 goals and was always competing in the air. The 50m penalty would have been a more major talking point had there not been many multiple reasons we lost the game. Again so frustrating when there were many other occasions where Brisbane players sat on the footy after giving away free kicks throughout the night. Bailey just took it a tad too far. He'll learn.

Needs to sort out his kicking, but glad he'll be sticking around. Great strong mark for such a wirey player!

Great news IMO.

He hasn't had the easiest run over his first two years: dropped for the prelim after playing most of 2018, then asked to play defence in 2019 when he never should have, then asked to be the second tall forward in the start of 2020 when, again, he never should have.

Hopefully if we can let him settle into his best role for us he can flourish.

I'm probably in the minority here but if he is probably our second best field kick after Salem (and he's missing so many of his set shots) isn't it a waste to have him playing so deep forward?

I loved what he could do when he played wing / HFF previously - where he could use his kicking skills to deliver the final kick inside 50 which we all know is a weakness.

Having said that, he has previously been a reliable set shot so if he'd kicked straighter this year we might've had an extra win or two.

Needs to stop leading into the pockets

Should be put in his contract: "lead into the pockets and you don't get paid"

Our leading goalkicker starts the game as a spare man in defense... even though we know he is a rubbish defender. Crazy move by goodwin, we were doomed from the start

He’s soft. Too slow to kick the footy. Creates turnovers

Right now, he is the least of our worries.  At least he gets his hands on it and tries to do things with it across half forward.

He isn't tough, but not everyone can be.

The problem with Fritsch is we don't have two of him.

He had one average game. At least he cracks in. He'd be sensational if we had two competent talls in the forward line.

he's probably one of the laziest players on the list. I mean how can you rock up to training late when you're in a hub. If I had my way I'd be looking to shop him around at trade time

Is a very handy third forward but needs to build some body strength. He doesn't have to the Hulk but those spaghetti arms don't help.

He was wasted in defence much of this year, probably because of Hore's long absence, and is less reliable in front of goal than when he arrived. Partly that's a result of leading to the wrong pocket and I am at a loss to why he does that but he is worth persisting with as he has clean hands in the air and the ability to produce consistently with a: better delivery and b: leading to the right spaces.

Fritsch is EVERYTHING that is wrong with the MFC

Has talent. When he came in at first he was a breath of fresh air. He has now been Melbournised.

Played out of position. Refuses to apply pressure or lay tackles. He's monumentally soft. Leads to the deep pockets on the wrong side. Has lost his skills - FFS he kicked the ground last night! - his goal kicking has fallen off the cliff, he's lazy. And to top it off he's dumb. IN a week where the focus was on little things he was dropped for being late for training.

Drinks his own bathwater.

This is where lack of leadership at the club comes into it. Who is driving standards that would turn a natural footballer like Fritsch into a top line player?

If we have to wait 6 years like Trac to hit unleash their talent or 8 yrs like Max is it any wonder we are a pizzpoor footyclub?

We need ruthless alright. We need a Voss a Hodge or a Johnno Brown to start kicking freckles.

If we apply that style of rule to the team jnr we would reduce the wages bill substantially for 2021

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
