Brownie just said that the Eagles will need to win by at least 25 points tomorrow.

I know we don't really deserve it after today but that's life.

Eagles will beat Crows by more than 25 because they know they have to and they're not mentally weak(at home) like we are

Let's analyse the performances of our leadership group today:

Nathan Jones: C. Tried hard but was ultimately ineffectual. Terrible disposal
Jack Viney: UG. Not there, and boy did we miss him.

Max Gawn: F. God-awful rucking, terrible effort around the ground, atrocious body language, and missed a crucial goal while his opposite number destroyed him offensively.
Jordan Lewis: D. Good early, but totally found out by the pace of the game.
Tom McDonald: F. Terrible body language, abysmal disposal, but also hard-done by the umpires.
Bernie Vince: F. Was possibly playing for Collingwood, I'm not sure.

Our young kids actually pulled this game out of the fire these blokes started.

Just got home, haven't seen a second of the game, but it's clear that we went with the choke this afternoon.  So terribly deflating and disappointing.

I know our season isn't over just yet, but at the same time, I'd be shattered if it was as I'm not ready for it to be at all.  If this does end our season it will leave a very sour taste in the mouth.

For those who watched the game - what was the problem today?  Did we look nervous early and couldn't claw our way back in?  Or did the Pies simply want it more?

Poor mental prep for the start of the game.....played like they had a lot to lose, which we did, and coughed up the win. The bigger problem, and sad to say it's going to stop us going much further in the coming years, is our contested marking. We are the worst in the AFL, and oppo teams are now exploiting it. That and the fact we've lost our clearance and stoppage domination due to who knows what, means the future's not so bright as it might have appeared, finals or no.

Lost in the first quarter. Finally we conclusively know who can't cut it when it's all on the line. Get rid of them. Analysis made easy for list management staff.

Eagles will win tomorrow.

Nothing surer.

Absolutely smashed in the midfield.  Harmes hasn't touched it, Hannan has his usual 5 minute cameo, Tom Mac was nearly our worst again, really missed Frost's run out of the backline, field kicking was D Grade.

Lever would be nice but gee we need some serious young midfielders as Vince is gone and the end is coming quickly for a couple of others.

Typical Melbourne. Making us wait until tomorrow night to see if we play finals.

That 1st quarter killed us. No tackle pressure was just useless.

We missed easy goals, did stupid turnovers and in the final moments just blazed away.

I know goodwin is a calm coach but i hope he gave it to them after the game.

All we can do now is barrack for the Crows

Tommy Mac needs to stop sooking when not getting a free it looks appalling.

On the back of that crap :

Membership prices should be frozen for next year.

The whole club should be on a Jack Riewoldt self media ban.

And no player should be seen celebrating anything on field again until we've won a flag.

5 frees to 0 in the first quarter to help the Pies build that match-winning lead.  Some absolutely baffling non-calls that could have helped us get back into it.  That being said, we were pathetic in the first and deserved to be well down.

It's our forward 50 entries.  You can talk about the poor first quarter or the fact that Collingwood tackled more and we hardly tackled at all, but ultimately we had every opportunity to win this even with the [censored]-poor first quarter, the umpiring and the lack of effort.  Where we lost this game is exactly the same place we've lost most of our games.  We get into a good attacking position, then butcher the forward 50 entry and stand there scratching our collective head as the opposition run the ball back down the ground.  Chaplin has been a liability all season and I can't see any evidence that he's learning from his failures.

Cheers Ralph.  That has certainly been a problem for us, especially in the second half of the year, and it looks as though it has reared it's ugly head again today which is disappointing.

We are doing most other things right, so hopefully Goodwin and co. can rectify this over the summer.

We have been trying not to lose for the last few weeks and playing accordingly, I went along expecting us to not handle the occasion, not even sure why some are surprised

Result of the Eagles/Crows will be irrelevant after Freo knocks off Essendon.

Unlike us, Essendon will not fail at the prospect of beating a rabble to make the finals. It's the only guaranteed outcome this round, the Drug Cheats will win and secure their place in finals.

Even it we do make finals, and we do not deserve it,  we'll be straight out anyway

Dont know what's worse.  Travelling home on the Glen Waverley with a whole bunch of grumpy Demon supporters grumbling or listening to the Pies chant....COLL.   LING  WOOOOD in the last 5 minutes

Special shout out to Bernie Vince for that putrid shot at goal in the last second that wouldve made West Coast's job that little bit harder.

That was so [censored] lazy. Pathetic

Seems very likely.

Thanks RTG I really needed a laugh.

So do I. In fairness, we've just seen a spot of black humour.

Cheer up at least it makes tmws game worth watching.

Notice a couple of posters potting Jones. Not deserved.  Too easy a target. Other so-called leaders like McDonald, Vince and Gawn were awful.

If we make finals, we deserve finals. This whole 'we don't deserve to be in finals' is crap.

Are we ready for finals? No way..

If the playing group believed  they deserved finals they would have won...hate saying this, but  a typical MFC result!

Goodwin may say history has no  bearing on current  results but something is wrong with our leadership/culture that our players didn't turn up for such an important game with an opportunity to secure a finals spot!

Clearly either way if we don't or do play finals the list needs to find more mongrel  e.g. Hibberd

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
