I feel sick. So melbourne, so pathetic, what an absolute rabble.

Just got home, haven't seen a second of the game, but it's clear that we went with the choke this afternoon.  So terribly deflating and disappointing.

I know our season isn't over just yet, but at the same time, I'd be shattered if it was as I'm not ready for it to be at all.  If this does end our season it will leave a very sour taste in the mouth.

For those who watched the game - what was the problem today?  Did we look nervous early and couldn't claw our way back in?  Or did the Pies simply want it more?

Pies were much harder at it and we can't stick a tackle

Quick look at the stats suggests you are not wrong there, GC.

It also looks as though we had more than our share of the ball AND more inside 50s, yet we couldn't put a score on the board as well as the Pies did.  Did Hogan's injury hurt, or not really change a thing?

Bitterly disappointing. The equation is now this. Essendon lose, or West Coast lose/win by less than 4 goals and we're in.

Crazy to say that this team is still a pretty good chance to make the finals after today's display…but that's footy.

A team of cowards

Nothing ever changes.

Effort was there in the end but butchered the ball dumb footy

Brownie just said that the Eagles will need to win by at least 25 points tomorrow.

I know we don't really deserve it after today but that's life.

Simon will say its all part of the journey

An optimist will say, we're ensuring Buckley gets reappointed for mediocrity

A pessimist will say - we're not comfortable with being favourites still...

This particular realist says - 7-10th is about where we are, in a really really even year.

Overall, behaviourally we (and all teams) struggle with sustained pressure - its how do we as individuals push back and regain composure under heat.- we're young (and some are old) and we're not great at it - and it will come in 2018 and beyond methinks.  Little things affect our psyche so much - first goal to Jeffy would have helped the mood to free us up.. for the first qrt - was relatively even after qrt time.

This was about the 10th defining game in a row - we've had significant injuries to significant personnel - I still maintain that this (in a sample of one) is disappointing BUT not indicative of the same old flaws... we can't help to buy into it when we care so damn much though.

They wanted it more than us. We didn't come to play. Our coach had a bad day. He should have read the signs last week.

True to form mentally soft.  When will this club get over this mental fragility that we have.  We lost 5 games we should have won

Tom mcdonald trade him

Only got to see about 10minutes worth while at work today and saw three soul crushing turnovers off Tom McDonald's boot.

The Soft Underbelly at The MFC is still very much alive and well.

It must be addressed over summer or we will continue to just waste our time.

The list still needs massive work.

Max Gawn needs to get out of the Media and improve his game.

Nathan Jones needs to be replaced.

He doesn't stand up like a Captain should.

Sorry i have to say it. But it happens too often

Quite simple as to why we lost.

Numbers around the ball in the first half for us were abominable.

Two incidents stick out for mine.

Goldsack and Melksham going in a contest in Collingwood's forward fifty.

Melksham sits on his arse and decides not to chase. He gets the ball back eventually but gives it up and Collingwood score a goal.

Max and Cox compete in the first half and Cox blocks him. Max throws his hands up for a free while Collingwood whisk the ball forward.

We got back in the last half but had we actually gave a toss in the first half then we wouldn't have to have used all our petrol tickets getting back in the second half.

Even IF the Crows beat the Weagles, it's going to get ugly for us. We ARE NOT SEPTEMBER READY.

shocker of a day   could have been much worse.  Brown said Eagles would have to win by around 25 pts against Adelaide to tip us out.

If we make it a weeks rest will be good   .  6 day break today  and IT   showed.

hogan may be right by then

Wow. We need to play a finals this year to give some of these guys experience in big games.

So many of our boys played so bad.

Pedersen, Jones, Hannan, Harmes, Tmac, slOwMac, Gawn. Even Hibberd and Jetta didnt play well.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
