Dan Hannebery would be handy if he wants to come on board

Neither particularly compliments our midfield. I'd take Libba first before Hannebery, but would prefer a pacey, good ball user or a contested beast that is a ball magnet (think Ollie Wines). Libba doesn't get it enough and Hannebery is appeared (to me) to be slowing down this year (not to mention being Sydney-based).

Who else could it be? Out of the Victorian based teams and midfielders (outside of the Essendon youngsters that I've mentioned), I'd only be interested in Cripps (injury doubts), Treloar, Sidebottom (maybe), Jack Steven, Bontempelli, Dahlhaus, Macrae (although is he tough enough?) and Daniel.

I think Lever is the big fish, but the fish and Cripps would be a delicious trade period!

A few people asking me what mail is about.Honestly not much this year.

Hearing the Watts loot will inform next move. They'd like Gaff and question has been asked. Unlikely at this point but shopping assets like Watts gives us a chips at the table.

Balic more likely than not.

Not sure where to put this or if it has been discussed elsewhere; but I assume BenKen's late(r) delisting means we're now confident of something transpiring list-wise and perhaps in a similar regard. Talk on Menzel seems to have gone quiet though?

I took it more as there being little interest in him from a trade perspective so we've let him go.

But would we not still hang onto him until a bit further down the line? Though I suppose that works both ways - why free up a spot until you definitely need it? Unless maybe we have a definite in?

Given we already have several spots available though? No idea, you might be right, something may have come up.

Trying to recall previous seasons. Was it Dawes, Michie and maybe Newton who were let go later last year? After trade week? And do we need the compulsory spots open and available before the draft?

Damn those pesky modern kids. Not only are they experts on the google-machine, but already know how to say all those confusing ethnic refugee names infiltrating the AFL.

Wonder if we are looking at Isaac Smith from the Hawks?

Almost 29 but would compliment our midfield perfectly as the outside runner for 2-3 years, plus premiership experience.

I'd offer up a 2nd round pick for him which the Hawks may bite on seeing as they have to re-juvenate their list.

Thoughts?

If you could get him for a second rounder and convince him to come across it's a no brainer.

Shouldn't we be listening to this...?

Honestly don't think it's anyone. We'll get Lever and possibly Balic. Usually by now you hear what names we're sniffing around, but these two are the only ones we've heard so far.

As long as he doesn't take the last kick of the match for a win.

Agree with @dazzledavey36

Unless something crazy happens these things are usually already almost done by the start of trade week.

Yeah ... just like Lewis last year ...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
