Might I add in addition to how this helps Weid... Imagine the freedom a player like Brown will create for Fritsch.

Very exciting.

Stoked about Brown!

I think you’re right and this is one idea that hasn’t been mentioned enough, the possibility of rotating Jackson and Fritsch between 3rd forward and wing. At the start of this year there was talk that Jackson was mobile enough to play a Ruck Rover type role perhaps he could play a Blicsavs circa 2017 role as a tall running wingman? If you then rotate him with Fritsch when he rests forward or goes into the ruck you could cause some matchup issues with his height and both are great field kicks. Exciting I reckon.

You still have to kick into the forward line to a forward. Something we haven't done well for a long time.

Valid but I think there are two key points here:

1) Forwards need to lead well if you want your mids to kick well. This doesn't just mean the leads to mark, but also the leads to create space etc. I'd say TMac doesnt do this well: his focys is on getting the ball only. Fritta doesnt do this well: he leads to pockets and poor locations. Hogan did this more naturally but up the ground. Inside 50 he didnt. IMO one of the reasons Weid struggles is because those around him dont create space.

2) Our mids are better than Norths. It makes sense that Brown will be able to function effectively at the MFC.

I thought a knock in his draft year was jackson's kicking (bball background, U18 highlights video's, etc.)? In season i did see him do one nice lace out pass which gave me hope though.

I remember that too but watching him this year I thought his field kicking was excellent, his kicking for goal less so.

Melbourne is confident it can accommodate three talls in the same forward line next year as it attempts to clinch a deal for Ben Brown.

But the Demons must work hard to re-sign Western Australian Luke Jackson ahead of certain attempts from the two WA clubs to poach him.

Jackson, 19, is out of contract next year and will be in demand if the Demons cannot secure an extension over summer.

Coach Simon Goodwin will play Brown, Jackson and Sam Weideman together in the same forward half next season with the club facing a finals-or-bust season.

It means the Demons will explore Jackson’s versatility as a key-forward ruckman who will support captain Max Gawn in the ruck in 2021.

But the Demons also have high hopes the former Australian basketballer could play as a big midfielder or wingman in the same vein as Geelong utility Mark Blicavs in his second AFL season.

Only a matter of time before someone brought Jackson into the conversation.  Clarke is just stirring the pot.

I was disappointed when he didn't extend his contract when Rivers and Kozzie did.  Hopefully, it gets done soon.

I like the name Sideshow, but I wonder what North supporters called him? And Brown's response?

In our family he has been known as Sideshow Bob since day 1.

Not my thing, but grandkids and their parents watched too much of the Simpsons when left unattended. Mea culpa.

Having said that, he looks exactly like Sideshow Bob so for us, it's a done deal.

Well done MFC. Got one of the best big fwds in the game to sign with us. And with a minimum amount of fuss

He could have a massive impact on our team and how we set up. 200cms is huge, and LJ is probably 200cms by now too. Those two will cause some headaches for the opposition!

i wouldn't trade Gus i don't think but i do like the idea of say trading a player for Brown, and then sending say Preuss and 23 to the Giants for one of their picks around 12-13?

We're definitely making finals next year if he kicks 60 goals.

And his set shot routine automatically allows our forwards time to reset to lock the ball in forward 50.

Loving this signing. Welcome to the club Bluey/Brownie.

If he kicked 60 goals this year at the right time we’d be Premiers

Especially after going so out on a limb with this call....

snarky ?

Surely people get that some posters have their one trick pony schtick (a bit like Ben Brown allegedly) - and we all openly acknowledge this, without ever actually telling the person that we know that their schtick is boring as feck.

And that's ok.

But then every now and again the schtick changes and you realise that said poster *ahem, cough* Ben Brown has more in his armoury than given credit for. And it's a lovely surprise.

Some posters however... drone on and on and on... best to mute methinks... even if the 'crowd' think they're amusing.....

And so linking that back to Ben... it's ok to sledge Ben, over his hair, his run up... but when you're 8 can's deep  at the preliminary final next year, 4 goals up and Ben is managing momentum/time wasting with his run up, or his brush back of his voluptuous hair...(yes I know the clock has stopped)... we can all probably reflect on how, when for north melbourne, for the love of god, who is this [censored]...but now.. .my man, I always knew this would be a great trade so that I, and only I can finally reach the holy grail of a premiership and cry many many many many tears of joy... but then you come back to reality and the G, probably in the ponsford stand if you are from the country like myself... and give yourself a little fist pump and knowing smile, that hey... this Brown bloke, much like some posters on Demonland, can actually surprise you...even though they're as beige as feck.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
