    Both Brown and Weideman cover a lot of territory.  It's great that Weideman will get the second tall.  Jackson will relieve ruck, play a bit on-ball, occasionally push deep as well as resting on the bench.  

    It's a good get for the MFC.

    So where will Tom Play???

    That's not my recollection of the nature of negative comments about Brown.  Most criticism has been that he is a 'one-trick pony'.  The videos indicate that is true only in the sense that his one trick is kicking lots of goals.  

    Of course there are questions about his 2020 and injuries etc.  But what better option is on offer?

    It will be interesting to see if his long distance goals suffer when not playing under the closed roof at Marvel Stadium or if the wind and rain at the MCG reduce his strike rate.

    No he just moves half a step to the right, shortens the run up by seven steps, holds the ball eight inches lower and blinks as his foot makes contact with the ball. Simple really. Sorry LH just bored atm.

    Not sure how many he's kicked at Bellerive?  pretty bloody rainy and windy here. Hoping the wide forward expanses of the 'G' will only improve his opportunities.

    Brown averages 2.6 goals a game at Marvel and 2.1 at the MCG. However he's only played at the MCG 10 times over about 6 seasons which is a  low sample space for a Victorian team.

    Has kicked 12 goals against us in four games at the MCG including a bag of 5 and a bag of 4.

    He actually made his debut against us in 2014 at the MCG for 1 goal.

    He averages 1.9 goals a game at Hobart which is below his career average of 2.2

    tbh, I don't expect him to be a 60+ goal a year player but 45-50 will be a good return given the other ways he helps the team and if other fwds start doing their bit.

    Thanks mate. If our midfield lower their eyes, he could get that up over 2.5, I'd imagine.

    IF he's coming then its time he came out and said so. Otherwise we're start to look like second choice depending on how other things go. Time to pull the frikn trigger already.

    If both he and Weid can combine for 80-90 goals next season I will be happy. Its pretty exciting the potential of having two genuine targets next year. I know there are big 'if's like if if Ben Brown can get over the injuries that hindered him this year or if Weid can put together a consistent full season. I think both are possible.

    Tmac + Jesse combined for 100 goals

    Josh Kennedy + Jack Darling combined for 91

    The fact that his goal tally was less than his games tally is a little concerning.

    Same here. But I think North were one of the worst performing sides this year. You only need to look at our 2019 to see how players performance can drop off when the whole team is playing so poorly,

    There's so much upside still there for him at 27. If we can get 40 goals out of him which I think is entirely realistic if he plays most games then it will be worth it.

    No such thing as a sure thing of course. There is always risk. He had knee and off field issues last year which explains his lower output. Previous to that he was outstanding in a bang average team. As risks go he’s very much on the lower end of the scale and it’s a risk we have to take if we’re serious about breaking into the Top 4.

    I’m backing Burgess to get him back into top nick and a 45-55 goal season from our new cult hero!

    What benefit is it for a player to publicly nominate a particular club? Assume the answer is they only want to play for that club and want to make their intentions clear to their current club and any other potential suitors.

    If that is the case why haven't we been nominated?

    Either he's still contemplating other offers or perhaps an in principle deal or dealings between us and North are already in place and there isn't a need to publicly nominate.

    even if they combine for 50 goals, it will be about 40 goals we didnt have this year. makes us a 2 goal per game better next year. puts us in more games for longer, possibly wins us some close games eg rich and geel. this is good only if the rest of the comp doesnt improve by 2 goals a game also

    It was a time to remember, formative and successful. Ashburton? Head back down High Street to the Burke Road corner. That's where I grew up, on that corner. As for the Dees in those days, it was terribly difficult not the follow them avidly - such was the rate of success and the virtual control of the VFL, as it was back then. The names of the footballers in our team stand in the memory like monoliths. Moreso, the occasional outings to see a game at the 'G remain indelibly etched on one's brain, particularly after beating the Filth, Essendrug and Footiscray. Thanks for this little missive evoking happy memories, D3031.

    ben held out for a better deal pre covid after getting a good offer from norf, why expect any different now. trade period hasn't even started and clubs always up the ante when they get nervous

      Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

    • REPORT: St. Kilda

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
