gw$ will be over-indexed for first round picks; they don't need them - they need bodies and experience to allow them to compete in the immediate future

preuss and t mac aren't the worst pick-ups

Ben Brown is nearly across the line. I’m tipping we win his signature and it’s announced that he has chosen us by the weekend.  Obviously the draft pick exchange imv might take a big more negotiating.

I'm 100% happy if a Ben Brown deal is not announced until both clubs have signed the paperwork. I love a club that is a quiet achiever about these things

When a player who isn't a FA announces a new club it brings expectations and potentially raises the cost to that club.

I think I posted this the other day. The brown and smith deals have nothing to do with McDonald. That money would help with other deals/offering clarry a better extension.

If that’s the case then Tmac should just EFT half his contract to Oliver’s account immediately!

I'm very worried about TMac and his salary biting us. Did we get ahead of ourselves after 2018 trying to lock in a dream team that not only stagnated but went backwards?

I think the only way we get a first rounder from GWS for TMac and Preuss is if the Giants get an end-of-1st-round compo pick for one of their want-away FA's. Pick 19, which ends up in the mid 20s on the night.

Pending the contract, they could get pick 9 as compo for Williams.

Honestly, we're in dreamland if we think Tmac & Preuss are worth a first rounder. It does not matter how many second, third or fourth round picks are thrown in. Sure GWS might have a need for a ruck and perhaps a forward or defender but neither would go for a second round pick on their own Preuss might get 3rd round. Neither player could barely get a game this year. If by some chance GWS fell for this we'd definitely be paying for Tom's salary.

GWS now will have some cap space with Cameron, Corr, Williams, Caldwell, Hately and others gone. It needs to be used and Preuss and Tom MAC would  be useful additions so we won’t be paying any of their salaries, IMO, it is just the trade we get. That said, Tom may be Bomber bound. They have space with Saad and Joe and others leaving.  Personally I would prefer him to go to GWS as they don’t have Dodoro.

Brown to Melbourne pretty much done.

Not worth a first round pick by themselves, would likely involve our pick 23 (or a future 2nd rounder), and maybe pick swaps on top.

A bit behind @Dr evil given we have had this news for a few days now.

On what planet are Preuss and Tmac worth a 1st rounder???

Is it April 1 already?

Depends how much GW$ want a Ruckmen & a Key position player.
Their needs are different

The combined value of these two would be an early second round pick at best I believe. Particularly if they shoulder the entirety of McDonald's horrible contract.

The ENTIRE selling point for a club to take on Tom McDonalds contract for us is that we won't want anything much in a trade.

he's not getting us anymore than a 3rd rounder at best. the only way we get pick 9 is if we offer our 2021 pick as a central piece and build around it

Yes. But hopefully GWS to the rescue.

So is offloading TMac needed to secure Brown?

No. we can secure Ben Brown and Issac Smith and keep Tom McDonald but it wouldn't allow us the flexibility to re-sign other players and bring in other people that we'd like. particularly Clayton Oliver who it's now clear we are going to try and sign up long term.

We might try but I doubt he will sign for more than 2 years ie to when he reaches FA.

The norm with player manager's is to have the best players contract only to year 8, their FA year.
