WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

We're interested in Brown, but several things need to happen for a trade to happen.

Salary cap is our main enemy at the moment. We were hoping to get TMac off the books, as apparently we're tight and need to free up some cash in the coming years to hold onto our elite core of Oliver, Trac etc.

If we can fit Brown in, we're keen and have enquired already.

Any news on Smith?

In talks with I. Smith and a real chance to come across as an UFA.

Haven't heard anything about the big fish Cameron or Merrett.
Others in Saad and Williams both off to Blues. Didn't hear anything about Williams, but heard we enquired about Saad and lost out to Blues.

Brown would be a great get IMO. Tall forward who kicks goals. As long as his body is ok, then he'd be a great get for our struggling and immature forward line.

Is Brown a free agent?

If our salary cap is an issue and impacting our capacity when discussing Brown, we are no chance to enter talks with Cameron unless we shed serious salary. I can't remember the last time this many credentialed key forwards were potentially in the market at once, hope we could get one in.

I like the idea of swapping our future first for their future 2nd. They can death ride us for a top 10 pick, we are aiming to make it pick 14-18 for what will assuredly be pick 19. Then you add our 23 in so they're at least getting a minimum pick 15-20 and satisfying their desire for an outright 1st. We might want a 3rd rounder back though for this year's draft.

Out:

2020 pick 23

2021 Pick 1-18

In:

Ben Brown

2020 pick 40 (Or whatever it is)

2021 pick 19-36

NM will not accept 23. Please try again.

While I'm not a massive fan of Brown, especially as I don't think he fits with our style of play, North have backed themselves into a corner with this.  They have basically told him to move on, so they can't come to the table and demand heaps for him as they don't want him.

If he wanted out himself then it would be another story, but North have clearly instigated this, so it takes away some of his value in my opinion.

Why not that's all he's worth they won't be getting a first rounder for him. He had a shocker of a year and is out of contract.

Is Mahoney really going to take a hard-line approach though, because they don't want him there and have backed themselves into a corner, which came about through contract negotiations and rebuilding, rather than anything attitude based?

I see him taking more of a diplomatic win/win for both parties approach that would see him aiming to get that 23 down to something equating 15-18 to satisfy both parties, be it through pick swaps or a player. Maybe it's splitting hairs anyway. I just hope it gets done.

And my above suggestion would ideally be a swap of pick 23 & 18 for 19, 40, BB and a premiership, with them gambling on us and losing.

You'd have to think we might look at Harmes or Brayshaw as tradeable. Harmes' contract, unless it's small, may stand against him. Is this why Harmes was played out of position the entire year? Clutching at straws, AF.

I'd trade Weideman for Merrett. Essendon need a KPF...

I don't know why we don't just re consider our expectations of Weid and T. Mac, keep developing Jackson up forward and invest heavily in a medium size forward?

Weid and T. Mac can crash packs all day, Kozzy, Fritsch and Trac looked most likely all year. Imagine if we landed De Goey or Papley, both absolute spanners but both are match winners who like Trac can destroy a one on one and free up other forwards.

And who would you replace him with AF ?  Brown ??? We are short of key position players that's why we need Brown as well. And Petty to play!

Medium sized forwards and inside mids are what we have an abundance of.

We need a key forward.

I'd play Brown and Jackson as the two talls with Petty as back up.

Unsure if this will surprise others as much as it did myself but Browns contested mark % stacks up against most of the key power forwards. I have always thought of him primarily as a leading mark (which would straighten us up). He also averages the highest “frees for” of key forwards.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
