I like it. But we'd need another speedster in there that we can guarantee goals out of IMV. Still not mobile enough when the ball hits the deck with that combo.

Agree but would also add that the goals part is secondary. We need to keep that ball in the front half. Our entire game plan depends on it.

The current balance of our forward line is just off a little. Too many medium forwards who aren't quick/smart enough to bring pressure when the ball hits the ground.

Brown won't help that but he demands defending which takes away an interceptor or a number when the ball hits the ground.

Look, I'm not one to play the guessing game all that well, but going by this you don't want Ben Brown at the club??

Not a huge fan. Has kicked a lot of goals but basically a 200cm lead up forward. Needs to find a lot of space to lead into. Not sure we can change the game plan to suit.

Dunstall wouldn’t kick a goal a game with the way we deliver it to our forward line, so might as well pay base price for a bunch of potatoes to sit inside our forward 50 from the menangatang 3rds. Won’t make a scrap of difference unless we change our approach to the way we move the ball and subsequently deliver to our forward line.

Saying that, if we do happen to sort out our woes and deliver it somewhat optimally to a player like Brown, then he could just be the bloke for us! Sign him up! Provided north are happy to accept our pick number 789 which is our first pick In the draft I believe? Or we could trade Preuss back to them, now that he’s had the Gawn makeover. It’s a win for all ?

Sorry this list  was supposed to be our Forward Line  Brown Weid/Jacko with Mihocek and crumbers Kosi  and Spargo/ Hunt crumbing.

One could argue that Hunty really does not Or very rarely crumbs.

Our top goal kicker not even included in the mix!

Is that Ben or the bomber Brown we have got already ?

Fritta is the glue that knits this lot together Anda potential 40 plus goaler.

Why are North pushing him out the door? Something must be wrong for them to actively get rid of a player who has kicked over 60 goals in each of 2017,18 & 19.

The same with those here saying absolutely not.

Has been one of the games great.

Its not like he kicked all those in a premier team either.

Brown has been a very good player and is probably going to be traded for under value.

But we have invested a lot in Jackson and Weideman and they both need AFL games for development. I am not convinced that a forward line of Brown, Jackson and Weideman can work. Brown and Weideman are basically non chasers/tacklers. We need a third tall who can also apply pressure, because Weideman isn't able to do it.

It wouldnt hurt at the right price.

Jacko may replace Max at times if we unload the hybrid. Both of these guys have not come close to Coleman status. Not having a dig. Jacko just starting.

Ill say it again 60 goals plus , 3 years in a row in an average team.

I don’t understand what you are saying. Are you saying  should look at him or not?

If the price is right we should welcome him with open arms.

I put some of the blame on Brown and his manager.  At the start of the year they offered three years at very good money and he knocked it back because he wanted four years.  I can understand why he wanted that extra year, but it's not as if Norf low balled him or didn't come to the table with a good offer.

He knocked it back, which is his right, but then had a shocker of a year and here we are.  Pickering will back his client, but they did turn down a very good offer in the first place.

If he slots the goals who cares about the run-up?

It’s funny how many Melbourne supporters are  concerned with the image, rather than the result.

If we can guarantee another 30+ from someone other than Fritta and Weid, we should be jumping at it.

Weid gets the second best defender with Brown up there, that alone should net him another 10 goals for the year

Agree.
Brown is a better forward than anyone we have today, would take best defender as you highlight! 60 plus three years running, Much better than our current Brown many want to keep.
Should be available at a reasonable price!
Only hesitation for me, is during his 60 goal years how did he go against the top 4 teams in each of those years?

Well he is 28 so if the body is ok you would get 3 years at least out of him.

If he passed a medical, was not expensive and could be obtained cheaply, then yes I would have a serious look at him.

Firstly, think about the fact that we're just about the worst side in the AFL regarding marks per inside 50.

Now think about this for a minute:

Brown is an extremely one-dimensional lead-up style key forward who needs the ball kicked to him on the [censored] in order to impact...

The answer is an obvious and firm no from me. It makes absolutes zero sense given Goodwin's refusal to shake up the midfield, draft and trade for higher skilled and more composed players or change the game-plan.

Having said all of that, no doubt we will trade a second-rounder for him and we'll go into next year with all the same issues, an identical midfield mix, same chaotic blaze-away game style and Brown will do nothing but run around like a headless chook the whole year.

I look forward to it. ?

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
