So in summary, you're basically saying relax, we've got this?

Was just reading through the 2012 'relax we've got this' thread. So many lols

'Hey peoples Now Just sit back and relax we've got this game against the tigers. Why? How can you say that! we suck, I give up, our list sucks, Recruiting is poor,Schwab needs to go and Bring back Bailey is what I have been reading. We will beat the tigers no drama. I did just post in the changes vs tigers thread so I thought I would start this one because we do have some good players who can win games for us. So I'll start down back. I believe its a very solid backline with Rive,Garland and Chippa. They just need to not be seeing the ball every two seconds and be surrounded by opposition midfielders and that isn't gonna happen against the tigers. Our midfielders will be a lot better this week if Beamer is back. Who is Beamer? Oh yeah he is that bloke who won the B&F last year. With JT,Jones,Magner and hopefully Couch all in and under and also a tag on Martin we've got this. Another game for Russian to prove his worth. Who's Russian? He is an all australian Ruckman and one of the best hit out players in the league. Bate needs to play a full game he is getting touches with little game time so give him a start Neeld. Our forwards will smash them if Ricky P and Clark start deep. They can't handle two big agile forwards who can take a grab. They have no hope of stopping them two. Throw in Watts and Martin and it's in the bag. BRING IT TIGERS! You will be are [censored]! Powerade showers for all GO DEES!'

I share your optimism GNF. At the very worst, we drop one (to GWS).

Bring it on!

It's possible. Not probable, nor incalculable.

Amazing season. Beating Port certainly was a bonus, in so many ways .

Out of the GF team - who would be delisted/demoted? Whoever that is, that'd be rough as.

As an armchair expert, I think Jake wouldn't want to have to battle for a spot in 2018 after we've won a flag in 2017 :)...he'd just chase the coin elsewhere!

Hard to believe that one I must agree... Anyway it doesn't have Toiges at 9th which is a must in any perfect dream ladder.

Big points for dreaming big if not weird... highroller

Keep those predictors going... perhaps one after round 22 would be interesting to see who fights whom on that last weekend.

So with the Sydney thing i have them losing to Hawthorn Friday night (not that crazy), Geelong @ Geelong and Adelaide @ Adelaide...

Would think all 3 are definitely possible!

I can see Sydney winning one of the Geelong or Adelaide matches and they should be too good for Hawthorn. IMO if whoever makes the GF we will have to beat Adelaide or Sydney on their home patch.

I really hope thats wrong and Hawthorn dont make the 8.

Geez,  the first half of the season it looked like neither Sydney or Hawks had a chance at the 8 and we would finally get a rest from them both.  So annoying.

don't worry i think I'm clearly getting carried away with them pumping Freo on the weekend - basically Hawks have to win everything from here and hope results fall their way

Ok so would that then have us playing Adelaide in Adelaide and assuming we lost, then we would go on to play the winner of Port V Western Bulldogs? So potentially both Adelaide teams.....? or would it be the winner of Richmond Hawthorn......fascinating.

Well.. the path looks a little wider after that great win.

Dare we dream of fourth spot?

With Essendon winning,  the other games so far this weekend have not handed us any breathing space but who knows what the remaining games have for us.

Great to be watching from the relative comfort of a good win but as I type our percentage is the lowest of any team in the 8.

Go Dees and keep those predictors coming !!

Safe to call it a road now i think.....

Would be the winner of Richmond or Hawthorn. So, in effect, we (4) travel away in the first week against the top team, while the team below us (5) stays at home against the bottom team, and then gets to potentially play us the following week at the same venue. All the more annoying if Richmond were to draw an interstate team initially.

Finals system needs to be fixed. Opens the comp up to skullduggery.

Hawks v Richmond on the same weekend that we play GWS.

Will be a lot swinging on those two results.

Why does my MFCSS keep telling me we are going to lose a relatively "easy" match. Time to believe that we are over performances like that one against Carlton in the second last round last year.

Go Dees

ROUND 20

Cats/Swans

Demons/GWS

Tiges/Hawks

Port/Crows

Saints/WCE

some make or break games there. Keep winning and the rest will take care of itself. First up beat North on Saturday it's an absolute must win

From a selfish perspective I don't want us to finish top 4, as I'm not here for the prelim or grand final... but realistically our run home is very good. We only play one top 8 side, and we finish the year off at the G against pretty average teams who we should beat.

We need to stay healthy and then anything is possible.

I still think that if we make finals, our lack of experience will hurt us. But this season should be able to gaining that experience and carrying the momentum into the finals next year!

Lack of experience won't come into it. The only teams with experience are Cats and Swans. Once Melbourne gets on a roll in September we tend to ride the wave going back throughout our history and up til recent times.

We also seem to thrive on contested footy, intensity, and a sense of occasion. Equals finals footy. And we've gained a lot of experience in tight tussles this year, and looked to have turned the corner in terms of our poise at the death. That final quarter against Port with our backs against it was inspiring.

I have not been so confident of beating North, well, ............... ever.

North?

They will have nothing at all to play for. Tank-fest for the number 1 pick to use on a trade for Kelly. That, and we are better than them.

Melbourne?

A win almost guarantees us a finals berth for the first time in forever. That, and we are better than them.

I would bet my cat on it. (I really love my cat)

Years ago there was a great pre game thread entitled something like "Get thee to a Cattery"

As a play on Shakespeare's great writings it was impeccable and really tied me into this forum. (I became a contributor years later.)

Perhaps that is an omen..... I like it !!

From a selfish perspective, I want Melbourne to win a premiership (not the pre-season variety) in my lifetime.

Get the feeling the bombers/dogs game this weekend is basically an elimination final, winner probably makes it loser probably not

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
