No chance Weideman comes in, let him consistently dominate in the VFL, plus he wouldn't get a game anyway.

That's definitely what I want too, but Goodwin has loved him so far. Only dropped him after multiple poor performances. Maybe he's changed his mind though.

Interestingly, Gawn said in his press conference Tommy Mac won't play on Buddy and it'll be OMac or Frost.

So Tmac forward again it may be.

Bwahhahaahahh OMac on Buddy!

Fred Fannings goalkicking record will get smashed.

Might be a late change on Friday Morn/Arvo from Adelaide if there are any cheap flights available.??

Any chance you could change your username for the rest of the week? I keep reading it as Win4theEagles . . .

I've said it a few times but I don't get the "fresh legs" or resting players argument.

We have a 9 day break coming up, playing on the big stage of Friday night against one of the best teams over a long period, pushing for first finals in forever. Happy to be corrected but I don't recall it happening often where teams this early in the season, in finals contention, are resting players with the General sorenes tag or managed.

The best team available will be selected, injuries, lack of form or better option coming back are the options, no rest for the wicked boys. This is why you do a preseason, to get through games week in week out.

Salem - out inj, Wags - in?

Watts or Hoges - in?, unbloody lucky - outs

With a cloud over Garlett.

I'm getting optimistic about a Hogan recall. Could we possibly bring in Hogan, Weiderman, and Watts in the same game and go tall on the MCG where talls are super important?

No

Weid needs more than one good game

Anyway, who would you drop?

I think they would want hogan to play so tmac can run with buddy all day he is probably only player with the tank to do so, then pedo can play ruck/forward that way if watts is also in we have 2 key forwards all the time with pedo and maxy pinch hitting forward

Then a 9 day break for Hoges to recover and then get some more fitness for run into finals... :)

We know what we will get with hogan, even if he is a bit rusty and can't clunk any he will bust some packs apart

I'm going to assume all of Watts, Hogan, and Garlett play, which is just as likely to be wrong.

In: Hogan, Watts, Wagner

Who are our bottom 6-8 or most interchangeable ?

Not in order: Bugg, Harmes, Neal-Bullen, Oscar, Stretch, Melksham, Hannan, Pedersen

Frost will play on Franklin.  He has the pace, strength and athleticism to be our best matchup.  Franklin is 199 to Frost 194, but overhead marking is Franklin's strength, so the little bit of extra height means little.  Tom McDonald can give a chop out.

i still worry about our kicking out of defence hence the Wagner selection.  Wagner is generally excellent by foot.

Out: Salem, Oscar, Bugg

Bugg has his fans, who have a propensity to froth at the mouth, but he's on the cusp and did very little against West Coast.  He's a fringe player and makes way for more talented players.

Tom goes back to defence, so oscar makes way.  I cannot and will not have a defence that includes the two McDonalds and Frost.  And against Sydney there isn't the matchups.  Oscar has done well, although not so much against West Coast, but for team stability makes way.

This leaves Hogan and Pedersen as the two forward key talls, Watts playing his roaming linkman role, and Petracca, Hannan, Garlett, Harmes and Neal-Bullen changing through a forward flank.

If Hogan is back one key tall must make way.

If Hogan doesn't come back and Garlett doesn't get up then I suspect the changes will be:

In: Watts, Wagner, Kent

Out: Salem, Garlett, Bugg

kennedy-Harris is now playing midfield, so he doesn't replace Garlett, but I think someone needs to take that small forward/pressure role.  Pressure isn't Kent's forte, which is why he's at Casey, but hopefully MC thinks he's improved in that area to get the call up.  Imo, he's more likely to hit the scoreboard in a physical game than someone like Kennedy-Harris, who is less needed in the midfield.  Alternatively, if Bugg holds his spot there's just the two changes.

Hannan and Pedo won't be dropped and I don't think Oscar should go either.

I actually do think Sydney is one team where we'll need 3 tall defenders, they have Franklin, Sam Reid (who's can't be underestimated) and also will have a resting ruckman - they have been playing 2 all season. What we don't readily have a match up for is someone like Hibberd, who is great against the 3rd leading type forward. Hopefully he becomes the distributor you desire, while helping out on the other talls.

If we find we're rebounding easily then TMac could be swung forward again, which would put pressure on their defense which is a little short - assuming Hogan, Watts and Pedersen are playing.

Slightly off topic but does it feel strange to anyone else to be involved in the match of the round for the 4th week in a row?

vs Collingwood

vs Bulldogs

vs Eagles

and now vs Swans.

Nah, two only.

Gawn can push back on occasions.

Three tall backs is not how we've been playing and doesn't suit our game style.

lol I just realised this ok I'll add a capital A.

Can't see anyone being dropped on form so injuries will dictate selection.

Doubt Bugg will get dropped and I doubt Kent can waltz back in after doing SFA at Casey.

We have a plethora of talls available and in form.

Their defence is caught out by quick ball movement and quick players. They are either slow in leg speed or head speed (Rowan when playing back)...I definitely wouldn't be going in tall.

EFC and the Tiges showed them up early but both fell for the trap and let Sydney dictate the tempo of the game after half time.

Hannan and Garlett are going to be very important for us this week, I hope they come up. Although not a fan of Kent, he has some attributes that would also come in handy.

Has anyone mentioned Smith?

Wags would be rightly filthy if he didn't get picked...

But pretty soon, you'd think Smith might wander back in the side given what he brings, and he will be fresher than a lot of the troops. Maybe Salem on a HF flank or wing delivering inside fifty to fix us up there?

Anybody?

Tim Smith? Joel Smith?

I, too, love what he brings. But an impressive 20 minutes of a senior match doesn't scream automatic selection.

I think he has a higher ceiling than Wagner, but to bring him in requires structural readjustment that would see Salem to a wing which affects our ball movement coming out of defence. What we're effectively doing it going maximum dash from half back with Frost, Hunt and Smith all having licence to break lines coming out.

This move would squeeze out one of ANB/Harmes/Bugg/[maybe Stretch] it would take a bit of an edge from our forward pressure, so the question becomes does this deliver better team balance than how we've currently been playing?

My mail is that Watts won't play.

Booooooo

I agree that Hannan is coming along nicely and has done some handy things but I'd much rather have Hogan roaming the forwardline and mixing it up in the centre.

In; Hogan, Watts

Out: Hannan, Salem

Watts has been pretty smooth out of defence this year so I can't see these changes affecting our structure too much with Salem missing off half back causing a in like Wagner..

No way hannan goes out he creates goals out of nothing, I can't remember seeing someone get his boot to ball so quick

So who does when Hogan returns?

Stuffed if I know mate glad it's not our decision, but someone will be stiff it's a shame we can't fit 25 into our side
