Ahh... Watts pulling the old sore hammy card, so he can play his 150th at the MCG the following week... Rest up Champ you've earned it. I'll be there cheering you on!

Hopefully they haven't made the banner for this week yet on the assumption he was playing! They might have to resurrect last week's banner and save this week's for next?

Now that Watts is probably out, i'd be in favour of us bringing in Kent. It makes sense with JW out we replace a like for like. Although it wouldn't make sense for us to bring in another tall along with Gawny, Watts kicks us goals. Kent can easily kick 2-3 goals a game. Trenners, JKH and Wagner can't do that

I'm not writing us off in this one even with our injuries... the Weagles are a MUCH worse side without Kennedy and we have Gawn back who can generate goals just from his tap work!

I got no doubt who ever will come in will have a role and if they play it then it will go a long way to winning. Sometimes a small forward line could work especially against the Eagles who rely heavily on intercept marking of Yeo and McGovern. We lower our eyes and don't put any height on the ball and it could work in our favor and our new manic pressure mantra in forward 50

However......

If we do, then start booking time off in September

I already have time off in September... overseas.... goddammit Melbourne!

But he doesn't apply the defensive pressure that is required for our game plan to work.

Billy stretch on the big ground for mine . Alternate Cam and Gawn in the ruck and forward as our tall targets and go with our quick small forward line .

So Stretch for Jones.

Watts for Gawn .

Use the same defensive positions at ball ups when Pedo is rucking .

Another interesting stat is average spread of goal-kickers.

We're presently equal *second, along with Adelaide, behind Port (9.5) with an average of 9.25 average goal-kickers per game.  The Eagles are 18th with an average of 7.  In their last two matches they've managed to spread the load marginally more without Kennedy and have had 8 separate goal-kickers in both games.

Like most, it's not an absolute stat, but other than last year, which was an anomaly, the previous 6 flags were won by teams that averaged 9 + average goal-kickers per game, and every flag winning side going back to 2006 was in the top 3 in this stat other than another anomaly year in 2008, which was similar to the Dogs win last year.

If LeCras is out it only compounds West Coast's goal-kicking woes, notwithstanding his indifferent form.

Pressure the key.

*Funnily enough North are the other team in equal second.  Those three losses early in the season by under a goal will cost them.

Footy journos of Australia, take note and---  footy journos? Oh footy journos ... where'd they go? ......... oh, they're all out the back chasing the next micro-scandal.

Seriously, that article is the kind of stuff people really want to read, not the gossip rag [censored] about who's screwing who.

Ted, I'm very disappointed in you using language like this.

Surely you know that it should be "who's screwing whom"?

Don't worry about that Jaded. Just get your husband to our September games !!  He's our " lucky charm"

Even with the outs I have tipped us to end the weagles drought.

Stretch is the other in, Watts confirmed out.

Good luck Billy, just lacks a little bit of composure at times but he's coming along nicely.

Weid, BenKen & Wagner are the emergencies

Gawn and Stretch the official ins.

Great choice by the selection committee this week. Go Dees!

Kennedy and LeCras out for the Eagles evens up our outs....they don't have a lot of recognised goal scoring power in their side

I would have liked Le Cras staying in. I believe he hasn't kicked a goal in 4 weeks.

But probably would have pulled one outa the box if he played, a better out than in!

Didn't know that. Jack Darling has a habit of playing well against us which annoying because he is capable of absolute shockers, as long as we stop him and Josh Hill (soft), it's hard to see where their goals will come from.

Gee Watts is a big out.

Along with scoring 6 goals in the last two games he creates a lot of scoring opportunities and genuine marking contest. Really hope Gawn can help out the forward line as much as possible.

Really love Jacky and all he brings to the Melbourne Football Club,

He is a true leader, on the Cusp of  "A grade" status and bloody good bloke!

Very happy for him!

Love him wearing no 4.. Norm Smith would be very proud IMO !

One of those guys who always seems to carve us up, very happy to see the back of him.

Unfortunately he's replaced by Josh Hill, another in a long line of D-graders we've made look like Hall-of-Famers in the past.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
