Non MFC Matches - Round 8

Fitzy gets a game this week, (somewhat at Vickery's expense.  Crickey, Richmond sure cleaned up on that deal:  pick 26 as the FA comp pick, after some shenanigans between the two clubs).  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-05-12/vickery-will-get-his-chance-says-clarkson

Clarkson: "In this case 'Fitzy' put together six or seven great games of footy that just meant we had to reward the player who had been the better of the bigger fellas".

I've always liked Fitzy (tunnel ball notwithstanding) so its good to see he is getting another go at the Hawks.

Love Fitz and very happy to see him get a game.

This comes as no shock to many, but something of a surprise to me... I really thought Vickery would produce some good footy for the Hawks this year.  Quite to the contrary, he's been terrible.

As some astute poster has said, the "Vickery effect has struck Hawthorn this year. Similar in some ways to the Malthouse effect and the Buckley effect at Collingwood over many years.

Bullies tonight. They find a way to win. Plus they benefit from the Bontempelli effect.

Getting to that time of the year when one needs to starts to think about following a second team so as to maintain interest in the season.

I used to like the Eagles as they played a good brand of football and Natanui was good to watch as long as Bruce and co weren't commentating.

Having difficulty picking a second team this year.... probably end up with GWS simply because if they win the big one it will not hurt as much as when the Doggies won last year or dare I say it if the Toiges win one.

Go you Orange Men !!

Tonight will be a big test for the Eagles. The Bulldogs have continuously fallen across the line and have shown themselves at risk of good marking counter attacking football especially teams with marking forwards.

Weather in Perth today is 22 with a very low chance of showers. Could be the usual evening dew. All in all has the hallmarks of a good game. Eagles by 20 points.

Shame Vickery didn't play last weekend. Good luck to Fitzy. Oh the irony of two ex Melbourne ruckman playing against each other this week and we haven't got one.

The sporting version of junk food. No flavour, overly salty and sweet but not too spicy with predigested texture so it doesn't work the gums too much. May lead to constipation or gastric reflux  if eaten regularly.

I thought Fitzy had been delisted at the end of 2016. Oh well, I was wrong. And I don't really care.

Tipped the Eagles at home tonight. Didn't know about the Dogs' outs. Just as well I tipped the Eagles. :P

If Tom Boyd had your grandmother's hairstyle he'd be Tyrone Vickery.

disagree - boyd is better at ground level, better in the ruck, better up forward, competes way harder, and is significantly younger...and only double the salary.

really, they're both young, not as good versions of cam pedersen ;)

What's your point, mate?

I hope you're not suggesting we haven't had a crack in every game.

Given we've been in the game in every last quarter...

We have been having a crack Sir it's just been our disposal, lack of leadership and decision making that continually screws us over.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
