Hawks are doing what Freo did last year and what WCE did back when they picked up Nic Nat behind Wattsy.

They're fugging tanking hard for one season so they load up with trade power via draft picks.

Clubs are getting smarter about how to manage their flag tilts. FA has been milked and eventually compo will be hit on the head soon.

With 18 teams in the comp, getting a good enough list is one thing but to string together a successful era is another.  We've (hopefully) done the former but clubs like GFC have done the latter with Dangerfield, Henderson, Selwood, Stanley, Z Smith et al, whereas the Hawks and Freo have dramatically fell from grace to rebound via the above strategy I mentioned.

It's all part of the systematic rorting the AFL teaches its competition.

Narrrrp.  Their first round pick this year is with St Kilda and their second round pick is with Gold Coast.  Not sure what pick 37 is going to buy on the trade table.

They sold their future for O'Meara and Mitchell, and now they are just plain old bottoming out.  Eat it, Hawthorn.

Gee the Hawks miss Mitchell. He was the extractor, the go to player, the link man. It's going to be very interesting to see how the club responds over coming weeks if the losses continue.

Someone not mentioned is Brad Hill.  He is a big loss to the Hawks.

He gave the Hawks speed thru the middle and with Burgoyne's speed was critical in moving the ball end to end.  Burgoyne has slowed down in recent years but Hill camouflaged that a bit.  They didn't replace Hill's speed.  Now they are as slow as snails.

Lucifer, Hill was not a big loss for the Hawks. Yes, he was fast and yes if he got the ball on the outside and had a metre on an opponent, he looked impressive. How often did Hill win a one on one or get a difficult contested possession ??? With pressure applied, he usually coughed it up. Okay, he won three premierships or whatever it was, but don't look at Hill through rose coloured glasses. One thing the Hawks definitely got right in the last 6 months is getting rid of Hill.

It's sort of hollow celebrating their demise.

You want to, but deep down those 4 flags in 8 years don't give you much reason to.

Yep, if they have a succession of 50 seasons to mirror our last 50 then I'll laugh. I've seen them win 7 flags plus another 2 since I was born. They've been the best/most successful club of the last half century and it isn't even close. Hopefully the worm turns and who knows, maybe we'll win back some Hawthorn supporters kids just like a lot of Melbourne supporters kids went to the Hawks to jump on their success in the 70's and 80s

Their fans...the worst in so many ways. arrogant, Family! Family!?Hah! Interested to see how all those rusted on fans drop away now.. Their fans.....

62k today and a lot of empty seats in the Hawthorn reserved seats area in the southern stand. 80k+ to these games not long ago and I don't think it's 20k Cats fans who have dropped off.

AFL won't like that drop-off. 2018 the year of "the priority free agent"?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
