Where there's smoke there's...

Smoking is becoming unpopular and less widespread. If the government cared about its ill effects on the public, they would legislate to ban the sale of tobacco and tobacco products to people born from the year 2000 onwards. They won't because the revenue they collect from it is too great. Really, they couldn't care less about the health of the public. They are disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

That said, I'd prefer that our players didn't smoke.

Banning it wouldn't do anything. That's a bad move to ban them entirely. Only makes them cooler then.

They heavily tax them and plaster death all over the boxes.

I think the government response and legislation (in terms of public smoking) has been the perfect way to marginalise smoking and smokers.

And meanwhile, the Jesse puff on a ciggie is still a rubbish news story.

Our best 2 players have been caught smoking. I'm starting to think we should be encouraging it.

If Jesse smokes joints, it might explain his wonky run ups for goal.

I think he needs a smoke before a shot for goal to calm his nerves.

Hiring a ciggie runner could be a good job creation initiative by the MFC.

Was anyone watching with binoculars the three quarter time break of Geelong's in our game with them. The reason i am interested is because Fox does not show even a glimpse of any three quarter time break duration anywhere, and i am wondering why?

Just on a completely related matter, they were exceptionally good and fast and rejuvenated in that last quarter, what with their two best players on the mettle after a torrid three previous quarters. Water is a wonderful fillip....

I had been known to bot a drag off the goal umpire back in the day

Only when the ball was up the other end of course

It's a slippery slope Jesse is on.

Smoking to drugs to wanting to join Essendon in the off season.

Rec drugs is more West Coast's territory. So far more concerning.

lol @ all this fuss over having a dart at a music festival.

I'm more worried about his choice of music.

Get some taste Puffing Billy.

WOW !!! , sorry about your Dad but you are unbelievable you gotta joking right? wasting away !!! he was at a music festival !!! so what if he had a smoke at least he wasnt doing anything else which would have been there, oh he probably had a drink too again so what !!

You dont know how bad his dad is and it would be very stressful, he is human and family comes first and its better than keeping it bottled up or else you can turn bitter and twisted and he hasnt compromised anything, he has let his hair down a little bit, so what !!! you dont know how much pressure he has on him over his dad for all we know that could have been a factor in his striking offence, just because you can put your emotion aside does not mean others can.

Fair enough comment!

Just done some Math

A pack a day smoker will pay between $150-$175 bucks a week assuming $ 25 bucks a pkt

Over a month that = $600- 700 odd bucks

Over a year = over  $ 7, 000,00

Over 10 years = 70 grand

Hnmm big bucks for a product that seriously halms your health and can kill you!

Now aint that info a breath of fresh air?

Just sayin

You his accountant?

Just like when John Safran famously sent out the remote control ciggie delivery seagull to Shane Warne during a match.

It panders to the outrage industry and one of the most pc periods of all time.

The thought police are watching you.

Can't remember the fellow's name but during the final of the long jump at the Sydney Olympics the Aussie competitor would actually have a [censored] between jumps.

This was on TV for the world to see. I don't think he got as much stick as Jessie is getting ATM.

FMD. Let it blow over.

Or stub it out even.

The censored out bit is the politically incorrect word for cigarette.

I heard Jesse sometimes eats cereal for dinner

not nutritionally balanced if you ask me

please explain Jesse

Last time we won a flag blokes were having a dart and a sherry at 3/4 time, take it as a good omen. Personally I'm disappointed it wasn't a cigar.

The cigar can wait until the evening of September 30th -- couldn't care less what they do that night in celebration.

There's a decent few in every club that does it mate.

Hogan is not the only one in our team that doesn't mind the occasional dart, and im not talking about Maxy.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
