Jay Clark's take on the horse trading for Leve rhttp://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/jake-lever-is-out-of-contract-so-melbourne-has-upper-hand-in-bid-to-land-adelaide-defender/news-story/77de2b236f1a797b08d5fb5016b1abee

The deal sounds quite fair:

"The deal will be five years at least on about $750,000 a year, instantly making him one of the top three of four paid players at Melbourne, and he’s exactly what Simon Goodwin’s men need to help jump into the top four...But they aren’t parting with two-first round choices without something else coming back and need only look back one year ago when the Crows refused to part with a pair of aces for Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs for some affirmation".

He goes on to say that because Lever (unlike Gibbs) is out of contract mfc hold the upper hand and outlines some trade scenarios.

On the down side he thinks it could go down to the 11th hour.  I had thought both clubs would want it over and done with and move on to other deals.

Adelaide have shown they can play hardball.  Just hope we hold our nerve even if it does drag out.

To trade Oliver for 3 draft picks would be a terrible idea. He's clearly a cut above anything we've picked in the last 20 years. He rates as possibly our most important player going forward. Those 3 draft picks could be Watts, Salem and Tyson and none hold a torch to Olivee. Steve your nuts and should be roundly scolded for talking nonsense

There is no way the Crows will let him go into the PSD for nil return. You would take 10 and 27 over that any day of the week, plus they could easily on trade those picks to Carlton who should in theory accept that for Gibbs.

Might be just me. 10 AND 27..Not necessary

10 and something probably

If , IF ?? , our 2nd rounder i want theirs back.

Play HARD ball dees.

Adelaide want two first rounders...

How about we trade pick 10 to Geelong for Blicavs or Menzel and pick 16-18.

We trade Geelong's first pick and our 2018 first pick to Adelaide.

Adelaide get their two first round picks.

Geelong get pick ten to use on Stringer or Ablett.

Melbourne get Lever and Blicavs/Menzel.

Menzel is a FA. And there's the chance Geelong would get Stringer for their first pick anyway.

My bad.

I would hope, for equality's sake, it would take more than pick 16/17 to get a player of Stringer's quality- especially whilst under contract.

Geelong don't have a first this year, Richmond hold that. Plus Menzel is a free agent. Still don't think we'll give up anything near 2 firsts for Lever, maybe a 1st and 2nd, or 1st and other arrangement.

It will be interesting to see what the Bulldogs get for him.

Well, don't i look the fool!

I guess the point i was trying to make is that I wonder what we could down grade our pick 10 for this year and what could we get in return.  Would make a two first rounder trade a lot better for us.

They don't want him so can't expect the world in return

Im not sure they really care that much. They've opened door, pushedhim out and door's closing.

Bit late to be exacting top whack !!

I don't mind that idea, such as giving the Tigers our pick 10 and maybe a 2nd next year and then getting their 1st and also the 1st they've got from Geelong and handing that off, if Adelaide get fixated on two 1sts. At least that's what I'd present to Adelaide as the only way we'll come up with the two 1st, they might panic and think there better off just taking 10 and next years 2nd themselves.

Grab a spot in the queue.

Would prefer to keep 2018 first rounder. Super draft apparently

Me too.

I like Roos' take on the draft. A lottery . Best to trade later for more of a known entity. But there are drafts you might want to go shopping in. I believe '18 is one such draft.

God i hope we get him, he is the general down back. Such a great footy brain.

He just knows his limitations. He doesn't try and pull off miracle kicks, picks the first target and does all the basics well. Absolute jet.

Can't wait to see him at the Dees although I do wonder if a crows flag will make him re-think things

Equally, if GWS run all over them, he might want to be at a Victorian club with almost as much young talent as GWS. ;)

were you guys watching a different game.... not even in their top 15 in tonight's game

I am sure he is better but not tonight

Would you call him in the top 3 or 4  Crows players because that is what we are going to pay this guy... $800k per year ??

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.

  • CASEY: Collingwood

It was freezing cold at Mission Whitten Stadium where only the brave came out in the rain to watch a game that turned out to be as miserable as the weather.
The Casey Demons secured their third consecutive victory, earning the four premiership points and credit for defeating a highly regarded Collingwood side, but achieved little else. Apart perhaps from setting the scene for Monday’s big game at the MCG and the Ice Challenge that precedes it.
Neither team showcased significant skill in the bleak and greasy conditions, at a location that was far from either’s home territory. Even the field umpires forgot where they were and experienced a challenging evening, but no further comment is necessary.
