Out: Hogan (if susp), Lewis (if susp), Brayshaw

In: Vince, Kent (Hogan), Bugg (Lewis)

I'm normally one that's happy to have Pedo back in the side, but Plapp has come out and stated that Bugg could do no more to warrant selection this week.

Might be worth going smaller and trying to run Geelong of their feet at Etihad.

We have enough poor skilled players in defence without adding another.

He can kick a goal, take a grab and is aggressive. He can apply defensive pressure as a forward.

Players like Jetta and Salem hardly waste a possession and are great coming out of the backline, setting up play.

Harmes is just not highly skilled and will leak goals as he did yesterday, if played down back.

He looked far more comfortable later in the game when he got the ball around midfield and created play running forward.

Unlike all those other defenders out of the side who have great skills? I'd rather Vince, Wagner and Hibberd but I think Harmes was our best option on the weekend. Now Bernie is back there's a decision to be made but Lewis out might fix that.

I can't recall what his 3 turnovers were that led directly to goals.

What I loved about his game was his work ethic to stick on a man (and a fast one in Armfield) and lay some tackles. Too many of our other defenders - McDonald x 2 but more so Oscar, Melksham, Lewis and often Vince don't tackle.

His best position is probably on the wing in a game that can see him run in to contests and push back and forward with the flight of the ball, but I'm not against using him as part of the backline rotation

Not convinced on Melksham. Misses too many easy targets for a relatively senior player. Straight swap for Vince.

Won't happen. It'll be someone like Hannan or ANB unfortunately. I'm not much of a Harmes fan but you can't drop him after yesterday's effort.

Pedo and Kent in for Hogan and Lewis, suspensions pending.

Gus had a poor day but that's the extent of it for me. He'll be right.

Vince for Melksham is a no brainer for me. Jake may be more suited to playing up the ground, but there is no way he pushes out any of our current midfielders. His disposal is below poor, and I his lack of physicality concerns me.

If Lewis misses, Bugg can come in. If Hogan misses, Pedersen can come in.

Kent on stand by if Hannan is quiet again. Frost needs to come in shortly as well.

In Vince for Lewis (like for like)

In Spencer for Hogan (like for like)

Then consider a Frost/Wagner for _____ & consider a Kent for a ______ (but in both cases i'm unsure who really).

I'd love to not play Spencer and go in small (Kent for Hogan and see if we can run Geelong off their feet, but now [and only now] would I be happy with a Spencer in). Spencer out next week for Hogan.

Never thought I would see the expression "Spencer for Hogan (like for like)" on Demonland. Or anywhere else.

Now we know Lewis and Hogan are definitely out I'd like to see the following:

Outs: Lewis, Hogan

Ins: Vince, Spencer

This will allow Watts to play forward the entire match and also mean Gawn can spend less time in the ruck and try to stretch the Geelong defence.

i say we 'go small' against geelong and try and run them off their feet.

I agree. With Lonergan, Taylor and Mackie in their backline, it's pointless trying to beat the Cats in the air or allow them to play an 8 man backline against our 6 forwards. As with the Saints, we need to lower our eyes and hit short leading targets.

Playing Spencer would be utter stupidity. Petracca should start deeper, and used in a Hogan role. ANB tags Touhy, and the Cats don't have much run out of the backline. I watched the entire North game, and the Cats backline looked slow.

I like the overall strategy and the changes here with the exception of Frost. Dont think he is ready just yet and with Vince returning in the back half pushing forward i would rather have his experience and pressure here.

Vince, Kent & Pedders. Pedders as the tall to replace Hoges who can also pinch hit in the ruck while Maxy rests forward. Need some tallness in the forward line for the quick long kicks out of the center or when under pressure up field.

Has Peders actually been playing for us at Casey? have heard nothing on him doing anything of note for months..?

Its obvious that Pedersen comes in. Plaus the ruck role alot better then Watts which then forces him to a forward role full time.

This from Melon in the Casey report

" Pederson - Better than last week and competed well in the air. "

Vince should tag Dangerfield.

Dangerfield will just rove to Gawn all day.

I'm not sure Vince has got the speed to go with Dangerfield. Admittedly, probably no-one has, but it appears to me that Vince has slowed considerably compared with what he showed in 2015. I'm not sure that "tagging" is in Goodwin's repertoire anyway.

Edit: Hunt would have the speed to go with Dangerfield, but I'd rather Hunt play the half-back role and let Geelong worry about him instead.

Wagner very underrated around here.

Not sure if there's a spot for him, maybe vince replaces lewy and wager for vinces role.

Harmes forward

Jeffy Clark and Hannan is a very fast bunch of small forwards vs a slow old cats defence

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
