Changes for Round 2 v Carlton

For it to work for Carlton against us, a lot of other things would have to go badly wrong e.g. getting smashed in midfield + allowing them to move the ball like threepeat Hawks + multiple horrendous turnovers that catch us out of position + first-gamer tearing it up + our whole defence having a collective shocker. Or we just don't come to play with the same intensity. If so, it will be all those other things that do us in.

The best way to shut down any forward line is kill them in the midfield and starve them of opportunities !

I'm hoping they play 3 talls as people worry about and we play the 2 McDonald brothers as tall only. Also, i would be playing weitering (however it's spelt) in the backline on Hogan as it would be a great learning experience for him (last week forward line on Rance was also a great learning experience). If that happened then it would probably only be 2 talls to worry about.

I'm all for us only playing 2 talls at either end for the rest of the season so that we can run teams off their feet (Hogan, Weid & both McDonald's).

They need to play Weitering everywhere as he is the only quality tall they have.

I think if they bring McKay in, which is quite likely, then they will probably drop Casboult who was a liability for them last week.

If the rumour is true that Bolton has been instructed to play kids and build for the future, I don't see a future for Casboult.

You are worrying about something that will probably not happen.

Drop Casboult add Mckay (202) and they also have Curnow at 194 to add to Weitering 196

After last year's loss to Carlton and our performance against Essendon, not to mention how we played against Carlton in 2015, I'm not going into this match with 100% confidence we'll win.

I think Tyson, which is pretty elementary, and Harmes will be the inclusions. Harmes spent the second half of last year in our backline and it makes sense to play someone fit and performing well in the VFL.

Wagner is probably the most likely other inclusion to play 3rd tall and been training with the main group instead of rehab, but probably let him play VFL.

In regards to the three talls, in a team defence we will often see match ups that include undersized defenders on bigger forwards and bigger defenders on smaller forwards. We will not worry about opposition selection to much but back our system to create enough outnumbers to at least break even in contests. I honestly don't think Weitering, Casboult, silvagni and McKay will instill fear into our coaching staff, but at least see for an opportunity to further test it. If they do choose that as a forwardline, I do think we will see multiple scoring chains from the back half through run and carry and plenty of time on the ball.

Just reading Justin Plapp's report on the website, I'd say they are the obvious inclusions.  He said of Kent, "He’s still got a few things he’s working on defensively" so I'd say he will not be in for at least another week or two.

They are the obvious inclusions, I'm a fan of Harmes and I'd be happy to see him get a go this week, I know some criticise his disposal but he's got pace, can find the ball and has a bit of mongrel.

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
