If I have heard it, then others have heard it. Whether off-field issues have substance or not, this thread should be locked when or before tabloid media jumps on board. The team is tracking well and that should be no. 1 priority. Everything else is a side-show. Whatever is going on it is a pity coming off a great season by Watts last year.

WTF - you've gone way too early mate. Neeld?!

Well when Neeld came in and had a hardline everybody on this site agreed with him,  many said they had faith in him,  and it was the right way to go,  I said then that faith is good but blind faith is no good,  I bet u where one who said in neeld we trust,  but u won't get anyone who loved neeld in the beginning say they had faith in him now.

Bushie, locking this thread will not stop the Jack Watts talk. How many Watts threads have their been? He appears in almost all non related threads as well. The media have shown how capable they are at making stories up and DLand will never stop that.

Perhaps we should have a thread called "Lies, Innuendo, Fiction and made up stuff" and fill it with Robbos drunken rantings and Purples malicious gossip. Would anyone know? The moderators may ban the posters for posting cr4p.

Let's nip this in the bud right now. Whenever a player is sidelined or injured mysteriously, there is always speculation about "off-field issues". It's an easy rumour to peddle with no proof whatsoever.

This kind of rumour, speculation and innuendo is not welcome on Demonland, which doesn't deal in fake news.

Any posts that hint at these sorts of allegations will be removed.

Jack's always pretty easy going when anyone speaks to him. I don't think he's going to show too much emotion or give much away.

I think the real question is, if this fault was purely a blind spot for him with Goodwin's new methods or the club feels he has dropped a notch by taking it too easy. Either way, he has the feedback and has 4 weeks to rectify it.

The sky is falling.....

Is this what happens when a player is held to account? Happen at other clubs all the time. As Clint Bizkit pointed out Stringer and Boyd at the premiers last year. People really need to chill the [censored] out, he'll be back in the team when he proves it which will be sooner rather than later

Grape, sometimes it is hard to believe the veracity of some stories & we believe them to be fake. The risk is that we may miss out on the real story by over zealous censorship. Some posters here get good stories early. Those that peddle rubbish are pilloried by others so I believe it is self limiting without the need for censorship.

I see your point MD but the last thing we, as dees fans, is to help drive potentially destabilising rumors - at least about pour players!

Fan forums have become an accepted place for sourcing news, rumours and information in exactly the same was as twitter and Facebook. I have no doubt one of the fist thing wallys like Sam McClure (who i dislike more and more every season - so smug!) when they get to work is skim through Bigfoorty and the various fan sites looking for some gossip to peddle. I would if trading in gossip was my job.

Control what you can control.

The club was obviously aware when they didn't play Jack week one ( let alone week 2) that it would cause a media stir - especially if the reasons being touted are correct. The club (in this instance) obviously and correctly doesn't care. Control what you can control - which is the handling of Watts and as far as the media is concerned - say your piece, as Mahoney has done, and the media will say and write what they will  say and write.

None of this stuff is going to have any impact on the club or it's supporters.

It might fire Jack up but any player should be fired up about missing out. The talk shouldn't be exclusive to Jack - it should include all players from all the clubs.

Absolutely - some players do attract more media attention than others but I do not think a preseason goes by where a player (or players) haven't hit the papers as "XXX hasn't come back in tip top shape". The papers were full of Yarran's condition at this time last year.

I understand how it all works nutbean ... my previous posts explains my position.

The Yarran story was similar but different ... in my opinion it had more substance but both stories fall under the banner of 'buyer beware'

I don't really understand why people are attacking ProDee for this, he had the exact same thoughts as a lot of people I'm sure.

Do you really not understand that? Whether he realises it or intends it (or thinking everyone else is a simple nuffie for thinking it), he gives off the impression that he can't wait for an opportunity to bag Watts.

Pretty sure he loves the banter anyway.

I was thinking about this a little bit and if the club is saying he didn't meet clear criteria during preseason, should they not have addressed the issue with Jack Watts early on and nipped it in the bud, allowing him to rectify and push for a spot. With players saying he has trained strongly for a couple weeks, it surely must have been an issue running for majority of pre season to only be mentioned a couple weeks ago, too late for him to actually make the required changes seems like poor player management in my opinion.

That is suggesting that he made changes straight away, which should be assumed if he knew his "round 1 spot" was in jeopardy.

Either way, Watts could have grown a bit complacent but why let it run til 3 weeks before practice games. If they continually look at data from training etc, they surely could have seen the trend earlier no?

Pro is just one poster.

He has an opinion as everyone else does.

It is not better or worse.

Some posters think their opinion is better, more informed or simply superior to others.

Fortunately, many just like to share their opinion with other posters or enjoy reading the opinion of others.

Some earn respect from others through their informed views or the manner in which they communicate..

Those that don't earn respect are those that allow ego or a sense of superiority influence their posts.

The Watts saga is a good example where opinions rule due to different perceptions, different information sources and different interpretations.

In the end, I enjoy this sight because I love this club and I find this site more informative and interesting that any "official sites" including the marketing spiel that comes from the MFC site.

Let diversity of opinions rule but without ego or personal denigration of other's views or opinions.

Speculation on the intent of Pd's posting Nasher is a lot worse that speculating on the omission of Jack Watts.  For starters it is based on a lot less information.

Got no idea what you're talking about to be honest. I haven't speculated on anything, just commenting on the impression PD gives off as an explanation as to why he draws criticism to someone who said they didn't understand it.

I rarely have any facts about rumours, etc, but I can assure you, I know of one NSW-based "journalist" that scours footy fan forums to write a majority of his/her articles.  If they have no solid news to report, they go straight to the forums to find something.

The above is fact.  And I'm sure they aren't the only ones (although I can't say that part as a matter of fact!).

I think the answer is obvious - Watts ( like all players) has to  targets to hit.  I would assume that Watts would have known weeks ago that he was behind where he should be, as would have the fitness staff - they do extensive monitoring. He obviously did not hit his necessary marks prior to the first or second practice game.

So what do you do ? Announce to the world 4 weeks ago that he is behind where he should be ? To what end ? Or let him keep catching up and play him in a game when the fitness staff deem he is ready ?

The one certainty is there is no way that they just figured out before the first practice match that he was not up to scratch.

really ? I think PD's body of work and style has been a lot more consistent that Watts' output over the journey. Like his posting or not PD is unambiguous and consistent.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
