I keep reading that Goodwin is more hands on on training days than Roos. So, a question for the experiences track watchers. Do you believe Roos being hands off was actually just part of the transition process? (In other words, was Roos more hands on before Goodwin joined the club?)

Roos was exceptionally "hands on" in his first year, but gradually allowed others more control over years 2 and 3.

Agreed, in 2nd and 3rd years sat back more and observed, didn't stop him stopping the drills and delivering a bake now and again, Macca is doing this now, but he also supervises a couple of drills when Goody wants to observe

Two observations from Friday:

1.  It was much less physical than the previous session I saw.

2.  Don't worry about Oliver, he was a standout and has the best hands at the club.  Lovely to see Trac helping and encouraging him in the repeat 100m runs.  You'd just want to play with Trac.

3.  Dion can really kick it.  Watched him having shots at goal.  Long and straight.

Enjoyed the chat on Friday, and yes, the last month has been good for the soul.

Quietly confident about DJ.

Frost has some amazing athletic attributes, but he still can be a liability with ball in hand.

Tyson looks primed.  I reckon he'll have his best year yet.  Brayshaw also looks very fit.

Petracca has incredible scope for improvement and hopefully starts showing more of his marking prowess.

Hogan will start dominating games and the competition.  

I could go on and on.  We're in for some exciting times.

In the last 4 draft/trade periods since Roos took the helm we've added:

Vince, Tyson, Salem, Petracca, Brayshaw, Stretch, Oliver, Weideman, Hunt, Garlett, vandenBerg, Melksham, Oscar McDonald, Lewis, Hibberd, Harmes, Frost, and decent depth players in Wagner, Bugg and Ben Kennedy. 

That's 20 players who have positively impacted the club.  It doesn't include Joel Smith and other very recent recruits.

As you say, it's an extraordinary collective in a short period of time.  Especially when the likes of Hogan, Gawn, Tom McDonald and Viney were already in place.

Well played PD. I was wondering how soon past the six month mark you'd dump the avatar. Do you think JW is a chance of making AA?

I have not seen DJ at all but i have to say i share your thoughts on the other players mentioned, particularly Trac and Hogan.

Trac will be an incredibly hard half forward to cover as he is strong in the air and the ground. He reminds me of Jarman in that respect. I hope he is a bit more selfish this year and goes for goal when he has the chance rather than looking for the give. Needs to improve his accuracy though.

Hogan will, as you say will, start dominating games and the competition. I have never  been more confident of saying that about a MFC player, and that includes Shwarz (who was mercurial as a young player but could go missing at times, as all young players can).

He definitely has the raw ability to. 

It's all mental for Jack.  There are reasons it took him 8 years to silence most of his many critics.  I'm told he hasn't always been the greatest "listener".  Combine that with self doubt and it explains a bit.

I expect his 2017 to be even better, as it should be, but I have doubts he'll reach the consistency required of AA. 

Not fussed if he doesn't as long as he keeps improving.

Agree with all of the above. Was just fishing for another bet. That's really interesting comment about his listening skills and for some reason it doesn't surprise me. I think he is someone who has taken time to mature. The way he talks about Roos, Macc and Goodwin suggest they are three men who have found a way to connect. Which is what good coaching is all bout after all. 

I think if he puts 2 more seasons together like last year he will be on the AA selector's radar, but that's a big if. He was actually really consistent lat year but the best players put seasons together. By all accounts he has come back super fit and ready to go so that is a very good sign

The thing Watts will have in his favor next years is opposition defences will be very stretched trying to cover Hogan and Trac and will need a tall player to cover Watts, but also a player who has the endurance to follow him up the ground and the agility to beat him when the ball is on the carpet up forward.

I think jack last two seasons have been good, the last season he has been a lot more consistent
