Jared Rivers - coach of Collingwood VFL

Featured Replies

After only one year as a development coach he  has the top VFL gig - he has obviously really impressed Buckley, which I suspect isn't easy.

Always a big fan of Rivers as he gave his all thru the toughest of times.  Didn't begrudge him leaving when he did.

If coaching your own team is a key to being an AFL senior coach he is well on the way.  In that respect he has a bit of a jump on his demon teammates now in coaching: Green, Neitz, Bruce, Yze.  I wonder if any if them will ever be the Demons senior coach...

Wish Rivers lots of success, except when they play Casey!

Good to see the Pies availing themselves of stunningly successful Melbourne backline participants....

Maybe Mark Neeld put in a good word for them all...

Rivers was a more than handy backman... and would have been regardless of who he played for (unfortunately, by the time he got to Geelong, injuries had gotten the better of him).

I hate to imagine your reaction if Oscar McDonald earned a coaching role after his playing career. Do you just hate defenders pf?

I hope he fails dismally.

Riv will be able to put to use all the strategy, management and tactics he learned at Melbourne.

What's with the hate?

All the best Jared!

Because Riv and Collingwood VFL's success are inextricably linked.

Worked with Riv's wife. His was offered almost rookie wages from the MFC to stay but opted to leave and play finals for Geelong.

Was an assistant at the Pies last year and now has been promoted to VFL coach.

He has been to a couple of functions at the club and still considers himself a Dee's player and would like to come back to the club at some stage if his coaching career takes off.

Good luck Jared.   but bu golly Collingwood is an odd beast !!

He must have the patience of an angel to move up the chain at Collingwood. Imagine trying to hold your head high dealing with Figjam, Eddie, et al. Good luck Riv!

At least with all the Politics Jared went through at The MFC he should have a thick skin.

It could get very nasty at Filth HQ next year

Break a leg Rivvo!!

Several!

He learned from the best !!!

Rivo was a smart player. His fast development as a coach is not surprising,.

Good luck to him!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
