He's a question, does Lewis walk into our leadership group next year? personally i think he and Hibberd both would/do but i know some don't think new recruits should be official leaders

Jones, Viney, Tmac, Lewis, Gawn and Jetta for mine.

I think we win against North and WC this year with him in our side.

Yep, agreed. I reckon he would have steadied us in the Essendon game too, when we hit the front with 10 minutes to go.

Has Clarkson turned into Mark Neeld during this trade period?

GWS is freaking the power clubs on the slide, right out.  The cats & now the squawks can see the writing on the wall.  Its over !  And you both have a lot of catching up to do.

As for us, Mfc,  we still have a lot of learning to do.  Our players & club, in being hard at it enough, still.  We are on the write path, but we need these types like Jordan Lewis to help us completely get off our old pathways of the Mcc ilk.

That nice club stuff has got to go !    We need to be winners,   Hard at it, take no prisoners, make no excuses,  Winners.

Lewis has about 3 years left in footy with him. I feel as though he has been a very durable player, just missed a chunk of games through suspension. Lewis will not only help us win close games, but it also has a domino effect on the rest of the playing group.

Imagine Viney, Oliver, Petracca feeding and developing their craft further from Lewis. Imagine the other types of players we will be able to land in next year's trade period when a four time premiership player has requested a trade to us. Forget that Lewis is slow, he will be able to provide that cool experienced head they we desperately need. Vince and Jones need leadership support on and off the field. We need this deal to go through if we want to start seeing more wins next year and our younger to players go to the next level.

I beat ya Hibberd is happy he is makeing the move over now.

Let's not turn one of the more positive threads of the year into one of these again, please.

I would take what Fev said with a pinch of salt (remember Karl Langdon and Hogan), but the fact he has said it with such conviction fills me with hope. As a former player and media performer, there's a fair chance he'd be friends with Pickering or Lewis himself.

I think you'll find his "pointing" is his main attraction to us.  We badly need on field structural guidance.

Pointing gets a bad reputation.

I know it originally came from selfish front runners who wouldn't pick up their man, but in the modern game the structures are so important (as well as the team's universal adherence to them) that good teams need strong pointers.

All hail the 'Pointers'!

How would Lewis go as a floating half forward or half back in his last year or at least playing certain sections of the game over the next 2 seasons in there? He has a decent leap and set of hands on him If I recall correctly? Seems to plays taller than his 186cm suggests and can crash through packs in unpredictable ways. Would be good to see him running up the ground at crucial moments to influence the contest

Can I get this thread back on topic, with this question...

Lewis i think will play a good amount of half forward, he's done that with the Hawks and been quite dangerous, similiar ish to Brad Green at the end of his career

Fevola didn't say much that was revolutionary, as faultydet (I think) said, he pretty much just covered everything that's been said on here and elsewhere.  I did love the line about Melbourne "being unsure if it was real or not" - that moment where someone's told you something and right up until it happens, you're stopping every five minutes going "nah really, you're not taking the piss are you? Seriously?" :D

Usually pace is more important at either end of the ground, but less so in the midfield (depending on the composition). I'd imagine that Lewis would play more or less as a permanent midfielder, only spending time forward if he's resting there. I imagine that it would be Bernie likely to play at half back more often as a distributor.

Repoted in the Age

Asked if the midfielder would be happy to join the Demons should the move eventuate, Pickering said: "It's not done yet and we need to keep working on it. The reality is, let's all be mature about it, if it happens it happens."

That's football talk for.....

Deals done, working on which pick now. Hawthorn supporters shut your mouths and grow up.

We need more goal-kicking mids though? Bernie seems to have a more intuitive goal sense than D sense, that he showcased in 2015 and went down back this year because we had no other option?

he'll be perfect

the Pointer is a versatile field dog (well matched with Gawndog)  and exceptional family dog breed.(Hawthorn) He excels in many arenas, from the field to the show ring, agility to obedience. Energetic and fun-loving, he’s well suited to active homes where he’ll be a member of the family.

Haha, probably a better analogy. But I've got to be honest, if that's ever happened to me at all, it was so long ago that it's long been flushed from the memory banks now.

According to multiple Hawthorn pages Lewis officially asked for the trade Friday.

According to Quartermaine its a three year deal and the hold up is the picks involved.

Don't forget that this guy is a goalkicker too...very handy half-forward who can take a grab.  So he's not just a one paced midfielder....he's definitely got 2 good years in him, 3 might be a stretch but he'll be great value for us.  Very confident this will get done.

A threepeat at two different clubs would be unique ?

We shouldn't have to give up any pick or picks to get him, they should do the right thing and let him walk, much the same way we let Fitzy walk to them.

They wanted him out and all the crap about him being a required player is just that, it's damage control to make it look like they didn't shove him out the door, but they want to try to get something out go their eff up. What did we get from them when Bruce took the trip over there, what difference is there between this and that?

They expect to get whoever they want, irrespective whether the player is under contract or not, but they don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot.

Hope we get him and hope we pound them next year and Lewis stars.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
