I'm amused that discussion on this thread has significantly dried up since the possible involvement of Mick Gatto was floated. Amazing how everyone goes silent when he's considered to be near.

The Donald is (slightly) classier than Newman.   And certainly, like it or not, more influential.

How about never having to go back to the footy because you never left it in the first place. Enough of these inane political rants please.

there's a whole sub-forum called "general discussion" where you can politically rant until your heart is content (or you are beaten to a pulp by the other side)

Disagree, and the EFC seems hell-bent on ensuring it never does. It is clearly meant to be about football, just not the on-field performance (unless artifically boosted). Since it is in effect about administration, it can stray into politics in a broad sense. But that doesn't justify some of the recent postings (which at least one poster has had the good sense to graciously remove).

Why do posters ask for a thread to end?

If you don't like it don't read it.

Threads should be allowed to go until they die naturally. If threads are derailed those posts could be removed, why lose the thread.

Read the title, "The Bombers Doping Saga - The Fat Lady Sings" Last time I looked the Bombers were a football side in the AFL and 34 players from that side were found guilty of doping offences. Wish as we may that the fat lady starts to sing and then another boil bursts forth more scurrilous information, sorry DMMA long may this thread live, don't like it, move on.

Most likely because it was way off topic,  breached our rules and made a moderator angry.

And now, can we not take this thread for a long walk.

Please stay on topic.

Hird is back in the mainstream and feeling better. A couple of years ago I said after all this is over he could only get a job at the Murdoch Hun.  And now he has a job with News Corp. Surprise surprise! Best of luck.

Hird will cop heat here for his responsibility over this debacle. Rightly so, but probably disproportionately for mine.

i won't derail this thread and will start another thread in the next week or so on the General Board but Demetriou has a stench about him. Not just in this drugepisode but every business venture he has touched since.

Contrast that article with the real comeback story of Jarryd Roughead:  “I don’t think it will be emotional. It is a little bit about me (coming back), but I don’t really want it about that either..."

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/jarryd-roughead-doesnt-want-the-attention-to-be-on-him-ahead-of-his-afl-comeback/news-story/b385bddf1ef71429d793533db02da1b5

Roughhead is humble.  Hird is still contrite. WE all know who the real hero is!

It is sickening that Ess are still harping on 'comeback'!

Bit of a surprise that Hird suddenly turns up in the media. The AFL pulling some strings?

I don't begrudge him a path back to good health but I really hope he doesn't use his column to preach about the drugs saga - a column of 'Fake Facts!

Interestingly, EFC have scaled back the round 1 comeback campaign of 'welcome back our 'heroes'', walk to the G, etc.  Maybe they recognise they aren't the comeback story of the Haw vs Ess.  That honour belongs to Roughhead.

And/or, the fanfare last week around the Wallis/Elliot/Gatto allegations have forced them to pull their heads in!

Hird working in the media is one thing. It doesn't equal AFL acceptance, though. I'll be far more interested in seeing whether he turns up at any AFL-organised events, such as the Brownlow Medal count or the Hall of Fame dinner. Actually, it's not really a question of "if", it's more a question of "when". At some time I'm confident that the AFL will want to put everything to do with Essendon 2012 behind them and part of that will be welcoming James Hird back to the so-called AFL family. And whenever that happens, it will be too soon for some.

Cue Beelzebub and SWYL...

Of course he does. When the whole thing blew up, his first thought was to cover it up. He was prepared to let large scale drug cheating go unpunished, to protect the income stream.

But. He tried to warn them off it, months before. And as he said, he didn't inject anyone.

Who started the whole mess, who didn't heed the warnings, who recklessly brought this disrepute on the game, still affecting it years later, who has failed to take responsibility? The heat is not disproportionate.

No, Oz head of News Ltd (EFC supporter and Hird tragic), pulling some strings.

The heat is completely disproportionate. Hird the fall guy. Bomber Thompson a more experienced administrator and the man who got the crooks to the club somehow escapes the heat. I could go on but that is the blindingly obvious example.

The Essendrug Newspaper was always going to employ Hird.

Now we will get "His" side of the story

James will tell all except of course the truth

"paperwork and reciepts James. Where are they"

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
