Be Nice if we see both Scorpions teams in the Grand Final! A fitting reward for both the Casey and Melbourne-listed players!

A question for KC or any other close to Casey please.

Does the MFC have any input into who Casey selects to make up its the Casey list of players?

Although Casey listed players are able to be drafted by any club it seems to me a possible way of grooming some late developers to play the kind of football the MFC is implementing. Appreciate there are rookie spots and the like already there but this may offer just another (albeit) small advantage.

At North Port Oval. Half time Dogs 41 v Bombers 36.  HUGE Bombers crowd here.

Neither side are looking like flag contenders ATM. Umps have had the most influence on the scores with a few goals gifted to Dogs.

My boy Yarran Jaffer-Williams is going strong after missing half the season with shin splints he has been in the bests the last 5 weeks in a row! Including BOG in final 1.

My source tells me he's leaving us at seasons end :( something about standalones offering him senior game time and how our system can't do that with the Melbourne listed players. Kid is a great talent and hope he turns it on one last time for 6 in a row next week.

Why if Casey finished on top of the ladder, do they play on sunday next week, giving the team against them an extra day to recover, 8 days and one less day to recover themselves, if we make the GF?

Collingwood get to play the Dogs, who have a 6 day break and then have an 8 day break to the GF if they win?

How does that happen, when we finished on top?

Thanks again KC, greatly appreciated as always. Go Scorps!!!

Yes, he is the son of.

Silly that the Scorps aren't playing on the Saturday, the deserve to be.

The 2's have to turn around a 92 point margin. Good luck. Hardly the ideal lead in for the seniors to play after that kind of result.

red, you know the vfl comp is run like a joke. look at the draw with all the byes, go to their web site (often wrong, misleading, not up to date etc). the old vfl (i.e. vfa) was better run with honorary staff. afl-victoria is full of paid professionals living the afl high life

I thought that, too. But the GF is on Sunday, so there will still be a 'regulation' 7-day break for (hopefully!) the Scorps. Presumably the scheduling tries to equalise the coming week's breaks for the 2 teams coming from this weekend's semis (is that how it worked out, not 6 days for one and 8 for the other?)

Nope. They MADE it 6 for one, 8 for the other!

The only good reason they've done it appears to be to have both Casey teams playing on the same day.

Cynically I'd suggest they've done it to have the way larger Collingwood v Bulldogs crowd in the Saturday time slot.

Thanks DS. Glad I added that last bracket!

Reasonable conclusion in your second line. Pity they didn't think the 'less important' 2nds could be 'sacrificed' to the Saturday!

Anyway, I now contract my post to the '7-day break' point!

That Fritsch is some cat!

What position did Bayley Fritsch play? His old man Scott was one of the toughest bar stewards to pull on a boot for Coldstream.

He's only 19 so still has time to make it.

I think you'll find the fixturing reflects a Western Bulldogs / Footscray priority as they are the only club with teams still contending in both competitions (and the WB are playing on Fri night and hence likely to play the following Fri night or Sat if they win through.  A Sat fixturing for Footscray minimises the scheduling / recovery gap differential across their two teams).  With the VFL GF set for Sun, Casey still gets a minimum 7 day break if they make it.  If Melbourne were contending in the AFL finals series as well as Casey, I'm sure we'd want it managed in the same manner.  We must resist the temptation on here of becoming too provincial and paranoid....

The Development League Grand Final has now been moved to Sunday at 11.30 at North Port Oval and will therefore be the curtain raiser to the Seniors Preliminary Final.

Good move.

A very sensible outcome.  Better weather on Sunday too.  KC, can you give us a feel for the round 3 clash against Willy where they thumped us by 44 points (I think that was the only time we played them for the season)?

The last time they met, Casey started out as favourite but the team was way below its best in terms of personnel.

There were a few important players missing and the ruck strength (no Spencer) was severely depleted. The Scorps had what I believe was a year's low of 12 AFL players. Willy's Meese monstered Max King and first gamer Oscar McInerney (3 disposals)  in the ruck. No excuses but they also had other VFL-listed players Ambler, Batten and Gordon with virtually no VFL experience and it showed. A couple of their AFL players were also a bit underdone, having just come back to football. It was a bit of a recipe for disaster and the team played poorly.

I expect a different team this week with 17-18 AFL listers to play (despite the loss of Terlich) including Jake Spencer which should change the ruck dynamic even if Meese has a good game. There will be a better balance of AFL/VFL players in the team with Keilty and Morris who missed the last game available and McInerney, with a few more games under his belt, should also assist.

Expect a much better Casey to play this week.

Exactly the opposite.

We finish on top and get to play a team off an 8 day break and then GF in 7 if we win.

Pies who finished below us get an opponent off a 6 day break and have 8 to the GF if they win.

Better both ways for the team that finished below us.

I am sure Eddie is very happy.

He won't be that happy when we thump them!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
