Watts shouldn't be rucking. Too valuable.

Dawes stays at Casey, if he even stays on our list at all.

Spencer is insurance on Gawn

Pedo is a KPF/relief ruck on yearly contract. Honest toiler.

If you cannot see that we need to develop another ruck beyond the two Kings, then try opening your eyes.

Especially considering their underwhelming development thus far. You've pretty much hit the nail on the head with that summary.

Someone do a best 22 for GWS.  I am too scared.

B: Shaw - Davis - Williams
HB: Wilson - Tomlinson - Deledio
C: $cully - Shiel - Whitfield
HF: Stevie J - Cameron - Smith
F: Lobb - Patton - Greene
Foll: Mumford - Ward - Coniglio
I/C: Kelly - Griffen - Haynes - Corr
Emerg: Hopper - Buntine - Mohr

And that's not even including their kids that are coming in this year, two of whom are considered top ten picks.

On paper, they look set to be a serious, serious threat to win premierships.

Here's hoping that threat remains on paper.

And just like the drawback with us, who is their backup ruckman?

It's scary that they are a destination club now. We laughed when everyone was so sure Buddy was on his way there

I think Brad will go before Chris, but neither are particularly safe.

The money is going to be interesting.

Talk that the Tiges may pay part of his $'s

Given the rumoured 800k he was on at RFC surely GWS don't have the cap space??? but then again a quick call to Dill could probably fix things.

Gil: Given that GWS have been struggling to achieve their potential and maintain an anywhere near adequate list, this week's knee jerk decision by the commission is that they will get (i) an extra 20% salary cap and (ii) a much deserved priority pick, after Essendon .  This is essential to maintain the integrity of the competition, which as you all will know, is our prime aim

We already have Gawn and Spencer to tuck with Pedo Dawes and Watts who can sub in to with the Kings developing. How many rucks do we need. That's 7 players on our current list who can fill the void

olisik - in case you haven't noticed, even on those rare occasions when he can get on the park, Dawes won't ruck. Watts shouldn't. Pedo does fill in ok. Spencer - we really don't know. He hasn't played as far as I can recall since the shock win at Kardinia Park in 2015.

I'm not doing an exact like for like, more a general comparison.

Shaw Davis Williams/Jetta OMac Frost

GWS get the nod

Wilson Tomlinson Deledio/Hunt TMac Hibberd

Dees for me just, as Tomlinson is the weak link

Scully Shiel Whitfield/Vince Lewis Stretch

Even

Stevie J Cameron Smith/Petracca Hogan Kent

Even

Lobb Patton Greene/Watts Weideman Garlett

GWS

Mumford Ward Coniglio/Gawn Tyson Viney

Even

Kelly Griffen Haynes Corr/Jones Oliver Salem Brayshaw

Dees

E: Hopper Buntine Mohr/Melksham Harmes vandenBerg

The team for the Dees incredibly has 10 top 10 draft picks or equivalent.  It would be 11 if I had Melksham, which is my preference, in for Garlett, but not for this exercise.

GWS probably have a similar number.

GWS are ahead, but on talent/potential levels I very much believe we can shortly give them a run for their money.

2 developing rucks is fine. Trying to draft a ready made ruck with pick 57 just isn't going to happen.

We ll be right with what we have.

Would there be any chance of finding an additional hard bodied back up ruckman in the PSD?

Minson has been delisted by the premiers.  So probably as DFA or PSD pick.

I have no idea why we didn't go out and try and persue Vardy or Nankervis for one of our late picks

I would've been interested in Vardy but he wants senior team action. Give Gawns dominance this year I doubt we could guarantee that.

I agree with most of it, but GWS an easy win here. The big difference between our midfields is they don't have any slow players. All of their inside mids have well rounded games and are much quicker than ours. They have 3 of the best runners in the game (Kelly, Scully and Whitfield), while at this stage we are relying on Stretch.

I think the way footy is played now you can't look at each line in isolation.

They clearly have more class speed and run.  But we have them for grunt.

I put even for two reasons.  I prefer the contested ball-winning ability of the Melbourne line, and contested ball is king with the way the reigning premiers (and Melbourne) play; and there is also a query over Whitfield.

My belief is that Whitfield is a very good chance to be suspended from the AFL due to an elaborate plan to avoid drug testing.

When I weighed up the speed of GWS with the contested ball-winning of Melbourne, plus the query over Whitfield, I decided "even".

But yes, others may have a different take.

Bit harsh to call Mitch King's development underwhelming when he did his knee Round 1 of the VFL this year which is his rookie year.

The 10min I saw of him up till then he looked good.

I'm hoping one of Darcy Cameron or Rowan Marshall are still available come Pick 57.

Hilarious if true.

I do just want to put it out there @Wiseblood and co, that if Richmond decide not to give up their first rounder and the deal stalls, would we be interested in making a final offer for Prestia?

How are you feeling big fella?  You've stuck with Prestia all year, then he burned you in trade week.

I did have a laugh when he said that he chose Richmond because of their list.  What list?  They have about 4 good players and the rest are bog ordinary.

So are we done with this trade period? Apart from offloading Dunn for nothing

I reckon, outside of Dunn, that we are exactly that with this trade period - Dunn.

We've landed Lewis, Hibberd and we will also get the return of Jake Melksham to the side as well.  Add in Weideman as our first round pick with a year in the system already and that looks pretty good to me.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
