And what if he gets injured early on and with his age takes a while to get right again, we think this is the malaise that hampered Vince in the second half and has affected both Dawes and Lumumba, if we are going to recruit 'mature age' 26 would be my ceiling as in Hibberd

Heard Brendan Goddard on ABC Grandstand today who is clearly still a good mate.  There's no doubt Dal wants to play on.  I'd be interested for on field coaching input, playing input neutral.

I'm sure the other 21 on the field with him would really appreciate the second bit, I'll be ageist, too old, if we do get him will support him 100%

Mate, if Hitler put on the MFC jumper you'd support him.

I thought watching the game NDS looked pretty ordinary when the game was hot early. He got better as Adelaide took control.

As a recruit for next year...50/50

how much has he got left in the tank?

The MCG is a big home ground.

Nah too right wing for me, maybe Thatcher, reckon she would have been a bit like Selwood, nah I was totally against us getting Dawes at the time, could see why were doing it, but supported him, support whichever 45 or 6 are on the list each season, even if I don't agree with them being there

Ok I will be the devils advocate, we get Dal Santo and we want him to play a year, using the vernacular used on here, whose spot does he take

Midfield 3 or them were in top five of B&F, Oliver, Petracca, Trengove, BenKen, Bugg, Kent, Harmes, ANB

Half back, Salem, Hibberd, Melksham, Hunt, Wagner, Lumumba, Vince, Jones

I can't see a place for him

You can reasonably say that Dal Santo would be a better player in 2017 than any one of Trengove, Kennedy, Bugg, Kent, Harmes, ANB, Wagner, Melksham, Lumumba and Stretch.

And that's no disrespect to any of those players - Dal Santo is a three-time all-Australain midfielder with 137 Brownlow votes to his name.

If any young player feels like they are hard done by, having to go to the trouble to crack into a team that is more than half under 23 each week, then they are welcome to go play for Brisbane. Even though I get emotionally attached to fringe players and always hope they do well, I'm quite ok with us becoming one of the clubs that has enough talent that we can trade out 'ok' players for reasonable draft pick returns. Besides, ex-Demons are some kind of freaky blessed bunch generally, so they'll be happy enough.

Frankly, my only question mark is the salary.

Those are the leadership skills we must be seeking.

The Irony is that one of the best captains the game has seen that has captained the 2nd most games in the history of the sport, was also "exposing himself on the internet"

It wasn't irony Dom, it was stupidity. How did he allow himself to get caught up in that [censored]?

BTW love your name. Are you a sheila or a bloke? This info is important to Uncle Bitter.

I mean the irony is that Biffen thinks it disqualifies Dal Santo from having leadership attributes when one of the best captains ever was involved in the same scandal.

That argument can be used for any player and should have no bearing on a player who's proved to be as durable as Dal Santo. As for a certain 22 year old out of contract Gold Coast player who's seeking a trade however, it's a different story.

I know which of the two is the far riskier choice, and by your reasoning you cleary think it would be Dal Santo.

I merely raised the question DT.

However I think he is unlikely to play on ,especially for us.

Reminds me of the local flasher in the park who was considering retirement.

He decided to stick it out for another year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
