Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Butcher looked like he was going to be a star when drafted. Clearly he doesn't have the skills required for the top level.

A shame, but that's footy.It's a hard business!

I would rather games into the young forwards already on our list.

Honestly, it's not the worst idea.  Yes, there are better options out there, but are there better options we can get?  Watts is not the answer to the second ruck problem.  Butcher can take a mark and is a better ruck that Watts or Pedo.  His kicking is an issue but it can be worked on.  We already have two for the remedial kicking class over the summer, so why not a third?

On the down side, the only place you could play him would be in the forward-line, which means not playing Weideman, Hulett or someone else we are developing.  But that issue remains no matter what we do to give Gawn a cutout.

Was just delisted by Port. 197cm Forward/Ruck with a great pair of hands, could be added to our stocks for nothing. Could also keep Hogan company during their goal-kicking classes over the summer. Worth a punt?

Spud of the highest order! Have watched him run around in the SANFL many times live and I think he has country footy written all over him... Stay away from my club John... If we picked him up I'd be spewing!

Have you seen this guy kick a ball? It looks like someone who has never picked up an AFL football before and attempt to kick it on their opposite foot.

Funny how in his second game he kicked six straight goals from 6 kicks. Never came close to that again.

He did come close again - the next week week he kicked 4.0.

His career tally is 41.21, which suggests that the kicking issues are overplayed.  He's probably just not good enough in general.

I feel a bit sorry for him for some reason.  It would be hard to spend your junior years dominating and being pumped up, only to learn the hard way that it doesn't translate at senior level and you don't have it.  I put Toumpas in the same boat (despite the impact it had on us).

I'm not an advocate for John Butcher but people need to realise that a fwd-ruck available to us will have some defects or doubts and that's why they're available.  So players like Clarke and Vardy should be seriously considered and yes maybe even Butcher.  It wasn't so long ago that both Sam Jacobs and Josh Jenkins were "spuds" available for trade.  We've got to back our new development program.

I know nothing about this guy but how is it that you can get on an AFL list and not be able to kick. Its always amazes me that this happens. Its fundamental to the game. Indeed I think that at this level if you are within 40 m of the goal and 45 degress from the centre line it should be a certainty that you will goal.

He got lucky.

With his kicking action he can kick goals, but over a long period of time the probabilities are that he will eventually start to miss more than he kicks.

Why?

Perhaps you don't understand probabilities.

You saw that Gary Moorcroft mark video kicking around on social media too, huh? :)

I was surprised to see he's still playing.  Had one very forgettable season on our list too.

Yep, he's been dominating the NFL for the last 5 or 6 years. Still good to watch him live! James Magner has been running around for Heidelberg this year too, and it looked as though he was tearing it up before an injury.

In his first two years he kicked 22.5 which is excellent.

In his last four years he kicked 19.16 (plus however many that went out on the full or didn't make the distance) which I think is far more reflective of his capabilities.

I realise my reasoning is very flimsy at best, but it would be nice to pick up a delisted player that can take a pack mark and give them another shot, assuming we can't find a suitable ruck/fwd trade in the offseason of higher value. Everyone can root for a 'rags to riches' tale. There's not much to lose except one spot on the list and a meagre salary. A creative off season signing provides one more reason to get people through the gate. I guess it depends on how valuable that list spot is, or how valuable we consider the current mature aged players we have in the VFL.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
