We are a middle of the road team, Geelong are going to challenge for the flag, we were no match for them and having Hibberd in the side wouldn't have made any difference.  They would have probably beaten any side in the competition last week and it was just unfortunate we happened to be the team that played them. 

If we are going to get an experienced plater to give us two years of leadership we need to look at someone younger than 34, he is going to be lucky to play out one full year let alone two.

I wasn't suggesting having Hibberd in the side on the weekend would've changed the result. More senior leaders over the course of the year should however result in less players being totally spent by the end of it.

If we can find someone younger with suitable leadership qualities, great. I haven't seen many great candidates being thrown around as yet.

No to Scott Thompson.

Weideman is the key and he's probably 4 years off being a week in week out dominant forward.

Actually once the smell of liniment kicks in Ethan, I think walking ( and talking  stalking ) stiffy is Saty's natural (unnatural) state.

I thought it was just one of those sentimental 'get them back to the club as a coach' things.

Shane Woewodin is still ahead of him on that count, anyway.

Thompson would be great for a year IF he can still play topline footy. 

Is he still getting games now? ( i haven't seen much of the Crows this year) if he is still playing Football in the midfield this September then it is worth consideration. But at 34 it must be a very careful decision. 

We do need leaders for the next 2-3 years.

I don't see Thompson leaving but he'd be a great person and player to have at the club right now.

in 2 - 3 years time our maturity void in the 26yr, & 24 yr brackets won't be a concern.  But right now it is.  And the leadership at the top end is really low for us.

So One year as player & on-field generaling, along with Jonesy, would be very handy in the transition away from Roosy.  Our list is full of kids.

I think the issue is not age, but quality leadership.  I don't think Dunn & Garland deliver.

One year of Scott Thompson would lift us into the finals. Selwood and Dangerfield smashed us. Thompson is tough and smart and still very good.

Yes, we need more smarts around the middle. and another hard runner.

The general consensus on Adelaide boards is that Thommo is cooked. Most would prefer he retired gracefully.

Strengths - still great under the ruckman getting clearances.

Weaknesses - Legs are shot. Doesn't spread anymore & defensively can be a liability as he can't keep up with the opposition

On that basis, as a player, a big no from me and I don't see how he fits. I'd rather Clarrie in the guts getting those clearances

Take him for peanuts..just to have him around the place and on the track when fit. One year, what's the harm..everyone saying we have to follow the youth path...yeah right...did we learn nothing from the experience 8 years ago when we cleaned out all our experience and only played kids. All sides need a balance. Use GWS as the model. Look at the older guys they have brought in over their term to assist the development of young kids. We have a good lot of young fellas..they need some direction. I don't think Jones is a good talker on match days..he leads by example, which is a great quality..he could do with a hand. It's no risk as far as I am concerned. Rather have him in the side once in a while than Have Michie or Matt Jones.

I heard at work he's one that the Tigers were keen to interview for an assistant coaching role so perhaps Goody invited him for a chat as well

Cant see getting Thompson as a smart move by Goodwin. Rightly or wrongly could seem like a sweet  retirement journey for one of his mates.

His best is well behind him and could also irritate a number of Melbourne supporters who were annoyed at his departure in the initial instance.

Would expect an aspiring coach to be way smarter than this.

Where is the upside?

IMO would be an unnecessary , poorly executed, first move, should it eventuate.

Exactly chell.  The young guys need older heads to follow;  the old heads that will bend over the ball to pick it up, play physical, & run hard both ways, & show the right direction thru the week & game-days.

Chunk needs a chopout in the middle from another mature headed mid.  If we want to make inroads toward September next year, then all the best old Pro's are needed to help.

He would be following the footsteps of Daniel Cross & Bernie Vince in recent times, who we have used to help us, as we become harder workers & more professional.  One year I see as beneficial to us onfield & thru the week on training days.  And at Casey if needs be,

I believe we should recruit no one, and hinge all our bets on inexperienced potential, and experience in the likes of Garland, Dunn and Dawes...

After watching Scot fumble and get caught out of position and slipping and fumbling in the first half against North definitely NO THANKYOU.
