I stated early on in this thread that I was opposed to the idea of recruiting Harvey. A number of other posters have stated good reasons in agreement with this.

I also note that other posters support the notion of recruiting.

Having read the many informed arguments on this thread my opposition has been reinforced and, in fact, I would like to broaden the question somewhat.

If you concede the point for a moment that we don't want him then who actually would take Harvey?

Given salary cap and list limitations what team could actually gain from having him as a listed player? Is he a dynamic game changer? How long has he got left in him? Whose place would he take?

If you want him to teach then give him a coaching job, otherwise what is his value?

If/when we do not take him BBO, I reckon that he would be a great fit for the Saints as I do not believe they have a decent small forward.

Harvey has officially retired. He's already secured a gig as the new Gobbledok for Smith's Potato Chips.

His going to play divison 2 Northern Football Leauge at North Heidelberg with his brother. Good comp but he will kick 150 goals from the midfield, will be unstoppable

You concerns are fair enough, but you're pointing out an actual list management direction they took in drafting many experienced players. I'm just asking that we bring in ONE player again, like Crossy to give us that extra touch to ensure standards are met, who's a proven consistent performer.

Personally I think we've already had the 2016 story of a rapidly improved young team with a huge scope for improvement and potential. 2017 is the next chapter of taking an extra step and anything less is stagnation, Even improvement within the context of other teams improving around us can be stagnation as we could still be in the same ladder pos with the same teams around us.

Bringing an experienced player in to help solidify some confidence and momentum and push us into the bottom half of the 8 for the year is a minimal risk, maximum reward type of trade.

I think the club could use another 'out of left field' story to bring even more people into the gates and pike interest. Imagine if Stevie J came to us last year.

If other teams around us improve and we do to, then we should still advance up the ladder, as there are other that I think are cherry ripe for a fall like the Hawks, North, possibly even Geelong and West Coast.

I understand his face will be painted orange so he can play the part of an oompa loompa in the next remake of Willy Wonka.

PS. The only reason he's retiring is that there was zero interest in him from other clubs.

My thoughts exactly.

He is clearly bitter with the club, as he allowed the article about his kids switching to the Dogs, to go in the paper, with pictures of the family.

It was unnecessary and tacky I thought.

Yeah that was my thoughts. No other club made an offer or showed any interest. His manager said that last week he hasn't had any offers. I reckon he thought a club in flag contention would come knocking. The thing is he still never retired on his terms unlike Enright and probably Bartel.

That would still grate with him.

So the Club's bigger than the AFL record game holder. Well managed situation by all partakers.

As much as I dislike the pr*ck, it would have shown a lot more class if the club had told him of their intentions and allowed him to announce his retirement, same with the other two.

Jesus. Div 2.

Suspect he'll double as player-coach in some way. They'll be paying him fair quid. AFL players in the amateurs earn good coin, more than they ever could playing VFL exclusively without being on an AFL list.

A bit awkward that he retired after shopping himself around and realising nobody else wanted him.

I mean, yikes! Talk about a figjam.

despite everything, i think it was a shame norf didn't give him another year. he was in form  (5th in b&f), no fitness issues and a legend of his club, if not the game. i hope it bites norf on the bum.

It will 'daisy', along with their recent recruiting strategy.

I can see North finishing bottom 6 in 2017 and that's being kind.

Make sure you don't go and see this at the cinema then. Due out soon.

Ludicrous. Probably in the top 5 half forward flankers in the game still right now.

I would struggle to think of a team he wouldn't improve next year on exposed form.

Reckon the Roos have made a shocking call dropping four at once

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
