Kinda hard to care about next week, but I guess I'd go:

IN: M.Jones, Garlett, Harmes
OUT: Michie, Kent, vB

Jones should have been in for the Carlton game, baffling decision to bring in a rookie who we're clearly going to delist instead of him.

Garlett hopefully will be right to go, and we missed Harmes' energy on Sunday.

Kent out after a really poor game, but more so because he looked proppy on that ankle (?) he copped during the game.

Bringing vB out to just see if the forward structure works better with him out of the way a bit.

Leaving Weed and ANB in as they are part of the future and need more than 1 random game here and there. Plus, last time ANB played against Geelong he kicked 3.

I certainly don't. About the game, let alone changes on the fringes.

This game still means something.

Nothing would give me more pleasure than beating the AFL charity case that is Geelong in the final round on their home turf and kicking them out of the top 4, or at worst killing their hopes of a top 2 spot and making them travel to Sydney or Adelaide in week 1 of the finals. And for good measure I hope Viney injures both Selwood and Dangerfield and they miss the finals series.

To finish the season 11-11 with a % over 100 would be a great segue to the Goodwin era.

Surely Pederson comes back in? He gives us a better structure than the Weed atm. Weed will be a good player for us, but against Geelong will be out of his depth. Hopefully Garlett comes back in. What is the story with Ben Kennedy? He was one of our best early in the season.

Michie goes out and will be delisted. He is f...n useless. Has shown time and time again that he doesn't have what it takes to perform at AFL level.

I think we need to look at JKH ..has had some decent form in the VFL. For mine, he is a keeper, but if we can get something we need for him, then he can be traded. Injuries have stuffed his progress.

Yep..this is on the money for mine. Although Trenners/Salem or Kennedy could be subsituted for JKH

Just think this game is more about the future now, so for mine I wouldn't bring in any of Pedo, Dawes, Grimes, Garland etc...

actually if we want to treat this game as giving some experience/trying new things, it would be good to see Hullett play for Weeds.  JKH has got himself right and I think deserves a kicks and play Speno (worked last time at the Cattery)

Sounds like you think MFC is a charity case. Do you barrack for Melbourne?

They have been.  The AFL recruited our CEO, determined who could and couldn't be on our Board and provided significant amounts of money when we were at our lowest ebb at the time of appointing Roos.

One can be fully cognisant of history while supporting a team.  Only a nong would think it's mutually exclusive.

Find it Funny, Dean Kent has been one of our better players all year, like most young guys every few weeks he has a shocker and with out fail poster want him dropped.  Unless he is injured or carrying something he won't be dropped.

Last game of the year, bring in Garlett for someone leave the kids in to battle a top 4 side maybe drop Michie bit unlucky but I don't expect him to be with us in 2017 so I would rather see players that will out there on Saturday.

Did you actually read my post champ? Kent is one of my favourite players, but given his output and injury we probably shouldn't carry him in this week.

There's been a lot of AFL support for many teams over many years. Like any business I'm sure a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes that the public never even hear about.

Yes.  What has this got to do with your comment to me: " Sounds like you think MFC is a charity case. Do you barrack for Melbourne"

Yes indeed - let's not forget though, that Geelong were gifted several father/son picks (until the rule change) and had significant amounts of money poured into their stadium that houses all their operations.

So F/S rules were out of reach of other clubs ?

State and Federal governments helped fund their redevelopments.  Nothing new there.  Grounds all over Australia receive government funding.

This all makes them a charity case ?

Got it.

I noted that Dawes name was not on the team list yesterday. Injured, cooked for the year certainly couldn't be considered for selection this week. Harmes also had the weekend off as emergency.

Surely with one look to the future we're better off to ensure that anyone who can qualify for finals for Casey plays at that level? Not sure if anyone knows the qualifying status and could let the rest of us know?

Ideally I'd love us to bring in Salem and Garlett or maybe Harmes, leaving out Mitchie (cards marked as mentioned) and Bernie (has been ordinary IMO since that shin injury and should have been rested earlier), that way we start playing close to our long term 22. I don't see any reason to drop younger guys such as Kent (unless injured) or Weid, their better of getting experience with the guys they'll be along side long term. Unless there going to lose qualification for finals for Casey, because a lot can be gained by younger players playing finals even at the lower levels.

Weather for next Sunday is cool and fine so no need to worry about wet weather football etc.

Very hard to get excited about next week. The Carlton loss will put a dampener on the off season that is for sure.

Perhaps time to play Spencer (I know it weaken Casey but there is some upside...though I am not sure what.)

Having watched the replays of the last few weeks I appreciate what many have been saying and that is how important Garlett is to our run and carry style of play. We missed him. Definitely need to develop another Harmes type player if our game plan is to succeed.

All in all not concerned who we pick for next week save that whoever it is, it should be done for a hard headed reason and not just to say goodbye to "loyal servants."

Time for this football club to realise that the next few years will shape the next 10- 20 years one way or the other.

Got it.

Not forgetting fixture bias....having operations/facilities at one locale also contributes to bias.

Got it? Good....about time.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
