Loved it, laughed when he was talking about being sore and Goody just casually says we need you  to come to Canberra to debut. I think Goodwin is a bit of a players man and a hugger. But happy to see the boys waiting for him and congratulating him.

There seems to be a real bond between the players and the players and coach.

Well done Corey.

Looking forward to see Corey in the middle of the circle on Saturday getting sprayed with Gatorade singing the song.

Best of luck.

His contested possession numbers have been Oliveresque in the VFL. He might suprise a few people on debut.

Mm Hmm. Things are getting a bit bleak for him. A rare miss on the recruiters so far.

Good work. Can I take some credit also? Called him out the day before it was announced by the media that he was moving onto the main list (in this thread).

Just find the whole showering players with sugary drinks a little undignified. Although its something I'll never have to worry about personally having indulged in many sugary treats over the years

Awesome stuff.  Favorite part of the whole article is:

“I remember having a meeting in this room [in the football department at AAMI Park] about five years ago with [national recruiting manager] Jason Taylor. I told him – and I meant it, when I said at the time – that if I ever come back to footy, I want to play for Melbourne,” he said.

“I was about 20 [years old] at the time and I was back from my second year of college. Jason told me where the club was heading and I told him ‘my dad played here and I couldn’t imagine myself playing for any other AFL club – I want to play for Melbourne’.

Love this stuff and love that we are building a core of young guys like Viney, Stretch, Harms and now Maynard that bleed Red and Blue.  A few others which I think you could probably add to that list that weren't born into it are Jones, Maxy and probably even Nev Jetta.  Was so encouraging to here how much Aron Davey loves the club.  Player loyalty and passion in football isn't dead after all.

So basically he drank and smoked pot for a month lol

Good luck son.

the number 48 lives. I still remember Darren cuthburtson. Imagine how demonland would of blown up if it was around when he kicked 7 in his forth game then followed up with 7 against the pies.

Darren should never dropped the 48, soon as he changed numbers couldn't get a kick.

As did Liam Jurrah.  Only half the player he was when he took on 24.

A Pies mate told me he was not good enough to be best 22, at the time we got him. Thought it might be sour grapes. Don't think so now.

Jeremy Howe a chance to be AA. That makes it a great trade.

Howe was a lazy, sulky [censored] who didn't want to play for the MFC.  Roos played him in his right position, he cracked it and left to go to another club that promised him what he wanted.  Turns out Roos was right, and Howe now realises that if he is to stay in the AFL ranks, that's where he has to play.

Howe did nothing in his last year to assist us getting a better deal.

The common theme in my words?  It's all about Howe.  That's what he thought during his latter years at the MFC.  As soon as he started thinking "team" instead of "Howe" at Collingwood, that's when he stepped up a level.

Incorrect!

Playing Howe in defence has been a masterstroke by Buckley, not Roos, and he has finally blossomed now that Collingwood have helped him find his best position.

Well, according to the media flogs, anyway....

Howe said at the time he wanted to go to the Pies to play fwd. The inference being he didn't like playing back as Roos had played him there a lot. No Buckley genius there.

Disagree. We low balled him on a contract offer and he ended up T the team he supported as a youngster. He would still be a Demon if we wanted him.

You don't low ball a player you want to retain.

I suspect Howe tipped the balance where what his ability could do for the team being less than the maintenance (and salary cap) required to manage him. Yep Kennedy has been a failure, but exiting Howe given his likely attitude and impact on culture could've been seen as a win alone by the club. If he has matured at Collingwood, good for him, but it may not have ever happened at Melbourne.

On to the real topic, I hope today they employ Maynard to his strengths as an inside mid. Irritates me no end when a player blitzes at one role at VFL level, and then is asked to play a foreign role at AFL level and struggles. From what little I've seen and read on Maynard, I'm not confident he yet has the tools to contribute in another role.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
