This week Ross Lyon has said that if they can't make Nat believe he may not stay.  Today Barlow (who is now out for Sunday's game) has added fuel to the fire: "...if Nat doesn't see the club improving and the direction going the way he expects to and wants it to, then he's got to be able to look at options elsewhere."

-OOC in 2017
-Will be a RFA in 2017
-Has put contract talks on hold
-Is awaiting the new CBA before negotiating with Freo

It all sounds eerily similar to one of our own, unfortunately:wacko:

A lot to play out here.  It will be the Dangerfield circus all over again!
I doubt we will be close enough to top 4/serious finals next year for him to choose the Dees so another elite player will end up at a top 4 finals type club, if he leaves...sigh...

Freo should have made him captain and locked him away last year when they had the chance with the post Brownlow euphoria and looking at top 4 again this year!

I would stay away looking at Fyfe until he demonstrates he is a 100% fit. Odd comment from Lyon and frankly dodgy.  Long term injured stars are in no position to cherry pick for success.

Fremantle may look at moving him on.  There window is shut for 5-8 years so Fyfe at 25yo would fetch them 2 first round picks and a bit of salary cap to chase WA players like Hogan and Cripps.  You add those two plus McCarthy, you are starting to build a good spine for 8-10 years.  If he is non committal as a club you need to look to move him on.  If you crystal ball free agency there is no guarantee that the AFL will keep compensation for clubs that lose players so clubs need to look at trading players out before they hit free agency if that player won't commit to the club.

I still think free agency needs to effect the club getting the player, for example Frawley, Hawthorn should lose their first round pick, the structure now means top clubs can maintain youth whilst topping up their list.

Given that it would take a kings ransom and more to get him, Fyfe better be a 100% if he were on the market and we were interested.  Been there before with Kelvin Templeton. A champion dudded by injury and we got lumped with him at great cost.

Fyfe is exploring his free agency options and wants to see what Lyon has planned for the future.

Can't see him leaving but success and money talk. Should we go hard for this guy? After Tom and Oscar have signed on the addition of Hurley would be such a bonus but now it's not desperate because Tmac is still at the club...

Thoughts?

Definite chase in my book

He knows Freo are gone and window closing why else would he go on tv declaring himself "available"

I know he has said all of that.

But I couldn't in my wildest dreams ever see someone like Fyfe leave Freo.

He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy to leave.

Unless of course he had a fall-out with the club.

As much as i would love to have him in our team, the amount of $$$ we would have to pay would put too much pressure on the cap for our own future stars.  No harm in inquiring.

Isn't he a country boy from near Freo who is very close to his family?

Can't see him going anywhere.

He's from Lake Grace, country WA. Was neighbours with Cale "the man" Morton.

Hearing his interview yesterday sounds like he is definitely on the out from Freo.

We are also due for another Dangerfield-Esque thread of 150 pages that will equate to nothing.

The beauty here is that we get to see if the leg's come good before we play in the space (unlike O'Meara and Prestia).  We are now a destination club without doubt IMO and can afford to be choosy going forward.  No need to entertain Lumumba type trades where the desperate need for run off half back and line breaking abilities outweighed the existing concerns about H's mental state / robustness.

Losing enthusiasm for the Lyon methods?  Who could blame him.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
