Somewhat ironic that 4 players were nominated for Rising star, and he wasn't one of them!!

Then there is no chance the Rising Star curse will strike him.

Yeah that is a surprise, anyone able to shed some light on what he did to win that award twice?

So far no surprises. Hunt best young player, Grimes best VFL player, Jetta Club Ambassador. Is there a womens B&F award again this year?

Say what you want but Colin Sylvia was one of the best at the club when it came to charity work and positive off field visiting kids at hospital etc.

This. Used to do things like pop into the Royal Children's Hospital unannounced and stay for hours talking to young Melbourne supporters or just kids in general. For all his faults, he was incredible in this regard.

Yep all credit to him he never sought the limelight for it. I know a nurse who used to work there who was amazed at how often he'd come in and how long he'd stay for. Said he was an absolute gentleman with the kids and families which doesn't always fit with the Sylvia we knew. I don't know him from Adam but always felt he's just a big kid who's never really grown up.

We (self included) can be overly harsh on players and other Demonlanders based on a game or 2 of football or a post we don't like. It's why some love their pets more than people ?

Peter Jackson now speaking. Expects a good financial result this year.

I think there was an article recently saying that only 8 clubs would be in the black this year. Hopefully we're one of them.

I guess I forgot Vince had a good first half of the season

It's also easy to forget how good Jonesy is with more spotlight on Max and a couple of Jacks.

Special award to Debbie Lee for her contribution to women's footy. Got a standing ovation.

I didn't realise she has played 302 games of football!  In fact I had no idea there was a raft of leagues for women's football.

This is an extract of her achievements from a release on mfc website, when she was appointed:  Lee has been a longstanding figure in women’s football, both on and off the field.  She played 302 games in the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL), founded women’s football club VU Western Spurs (formerly Sunshine YCW Spurs/St Albans Spurs) and was VWFL president from 2004 until 2012.  Lee actively pushed for AFL Women’s Exhibition Games at the Melbourne Football Club and has driven the club’s women’s football program since 2013.  This year, she was included in the AFL Women’s Football Advisory Group, which makes recommendations for the inaugural National Women’s League.

The standing ovation is richly deserved.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
