Finals 2016

The old Melbourne would lose this week

But the old Melbourne would have lost last night.

If we losing to a bunch of top up players in the reason we miss out then that will be depressing.

Might motivate the boys this off season and next year I guess

It will still take a mammoth effort to get there, but how good would it be to face Geelong with a legit chance of making it?  I'll be a nervous wreck.

Regardless of the outcome, it holds us in good stead for 2017 and we can look forward to seeing our boys put in another strong off season in anticipation of finals football.

I'm looking forward to the drive down. A sea of red and blue scarfs out the windows, the maurading demons descending upon the hapless hamlet of the cats. The victorious return home, like Hagar the Horrible with the spoils, shall be sweet.

I still can't see this happening, but honestly I think if we make the 8, we have more of a chance to win the first week than North or West Coast if they play away from home. Both are a waste of space in the 8.

From what I'm reading online and hearing on the radio, the general consensus is that we would be a more dangerous opponent in an elimination final than North.

Who'd have thought anyone would say that a month ago?

To be fair, North are the biggest flat track bullies going around. Beaten 1 side inside the 8 all season

I'll enjoy watching them get humiliated in round 1 of the finals

You mean the same West Coast who just beat GWS at their home ground? That West Coast?

To be fair, it was their first win away from home in a while, and they barely won it.

I don't think West Coast are a serious contender this year.

Nor do I, but they've picked up an annoying habit of winning despite playing poorly recently.

(PS: Can you tell I'm still mad about losing against them a few weeks ago.)

Not liking everyone thinking the Carlton game is in the bag, we have been down this road it's a dangerous place, 1WEEK AT A TIME FOR ME THANKS

I agree, but after wins against the Premiers and Port at home, finals a possibility, we should back the boys to continue this good form.

I agree it's so hard letting go to the past, we have been burnt so many times against sides we should beat it's soo hard putting 100% trust in them, it's unlikely we would make finals but win this week at least the last round will be interesting

Totally agree, we've got to take things as they come and just take care of what we can do in the immediate future.

This 8 day break came at the perfect time.  We only get a 6 day break between the Carlton and Geelong games...  although Geelong also have a 6 day break for round 23 and will be returning from Brisbane...  hope its 35 degrees up there this coming weekend..

This applies to players only. Fans getting ahead of themselves has no impact on the result.

None of it is a foregone conclusion anyway; North only have to pluck one win out of their backsides and the dream is dead. It's not dead yet though, so I say we lap it up while we can. I'm happy to risk a bit of disappointment - hope it doesn't come against Carlton though!

North are so boring,  irrelevant and cooked. Every neutral supporter wants the Dees to get into the finals to see our young talent on display on the big stage.

And I think most neutrals would love to see Nathan Jones in particular run out in a final ... a year ahead of schedule anyway.

Dees into 41-1 now to make the 8.

11 to 1 on sportsbet

so happy to have $100 at 101 on Saturday morning

So we need to beat Carlton by 10 goals and beat Geelong. North have Sydney and GWS

Dare to dream

As supporters we seem to have learnt nothing from the Essendon debacle. We cannot assume we will knock off Carlton. If we do, then I'll go nuts.

I don't think it was the supporters being complacent about Essendon that caused the PLAYERS to lose the game.

I always thought the definition of MFCSS extended to the assumption that Demonland posters affected the outcome of games. Shouting 'chewy on your boot' at the TV is well known to make opponents miss goals.

Interesting fact: at no stage this year have we finished a round in any position on the ladder other than 9th, 10th, or 11th.  Not sure how often it happens that a team just stakes out a spot dead in the middle of the table in the first round and stays there for the whole season.  We're currently 9th and the lowest we can finish is 11th, so it's likely to stay that way.

I wouldn't say no to breaking that streak in round 23 though ;)

A non-football supporting friend recently butted in to a conversation of mine, exasperatedly going "how come you footy fans always say we? You have absolutely nothing to do with it."  I already knew that, but if Demonland is any indication, plenty don't.

Incidentally I normally try to avoid saying "we" when referring to the team, but I got pretty caught up in the Hawthorn win.

Was it 2005 that we made the finals but only just limped in and got flogged by Geelong in the first week?

I feel like if we were to make the finals this year it would be on the back of excellent form, like a runner peaking at the right time and we could do quite a bit of damage.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
