Really hard to see him getting a game considering Roos has to fit Dawes back into the team.

Jesse has been absent in our two best wins over the last two seasons. No longer an elephant in the room and not sacrilegious to discuss. But the kid has talent. Let's work out what it is that enhances our attack when he is away and incorporate his attributes into that mix.

Would be a top 3 back man right now if played there. Is a promising forward. Has shown enough to even suggest he is worth 1 million a year. Given he can play at both ends, I see no problem with offering the kid a stack. Buddy is on a stack, Rance is on a stack, and this kid can do it at either end. Not just forward, and not just back. Could probably even be a rover. I've seen him ruck our forward line effectively as well (at times). There is nothing Hogan cannot do. You don't go getting rid of those type of players. Not for Fyfe, or for anyone.

Agree. I'd give him a run at CHB and see how he went. I reckon he'd dominate.

Serious? You're joking right? He's still a kid.

Added to that side and playing well , we could kick some scary numbers.

Ofcourse we need Hogan. He's got amazing potential and is already performing well. The interesting thing is how we won without him today and last year. Not having him inside 50 meant our players couldn't bomb it long to him and had to lower their eyes and hit a leading target instead. It made us a lot more unpredictable and gave us more opportunity. When he returns we need to keep that mentality going and not just bomb it to him as it hasn't worked well this year. Hogan also needs to get on his bike and lead more instead of just calling for it and winding up double-teamed. He does it well when he's up the ground but for some reason inside 50 he just hasn't learnt to lead properly yet. If he does that and learns to kick set shits from over 40 meters he will be unstoppable and so will the whole team!

Gawn - resting bomb-ball pack buster.

It's all coming together. Our coach in waiting must be pinching himself after today. The players can feel it now.

Except that from now on, bomb balls into Melbourne's f50 will be much less frequent.

(unless Max is there, of course!)

"Do we need Jesse"

Strictly speaking - no.

If he holds us to ransom I'm comfortable we can kick goals sans him, and the sum of the loot we'd get for him would be our Cyril/Selwood/Parker cherry on the cake.

Do I want to lose him? Not in a million years.

What a remarkably sensible comment.

No, Max is Gawn. Dawes are things that need closing.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
