This is so hard. I am really struggling but see how I go.

6 - Gawn - Every week he puts a greater gap between him and the rest of the competition. His intercept marking was outstanding.

5 - Viney - Keeping it in! Tackling! Clearances. Just an outstanding game from a real leader. He and Wines are ready to be the best 2 inside players in the comp next year.

4 - Tyson - Really had a huge impact on the game. The goals were good but his contested marking on the wing was outstanding.

3 - Jones - 11 tackles. Just had a ripper of a game and usually a game like that would have him 3 votes.

2 - Watts - 3 goals and composure. Great tank and hitting Pedo was great.

1 - Oliver - sorry Stretch but Oliver had a terrible Q1 (1 touch), got knocked down and then woke up. 23 and 11 tackles and he kicked.

HM - Stretch, Weiderman, McDonald x 2,

Gawn. An incredible performance . Big Max just took the game on and said "we're winning this"

Viney. Also incredible. Monstered the game after half time.

Watts. Hard to believe the elite footy Jack is playing at both ends of the ground.

Tyson. Often unnoticed but does what needs be done.

The Captain. His usual gut busting lead by example performance.

Clarrie Chew Chew. Tough little bastard. Terrific inside courage and efficiency.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
