Pederson played his usual game at Casey... and that is above VFL level. He is another who could improve our current side. He would allow Watts to play the game he is best at and give Gawn a chop out. He also has more going for him as a tall defender than O Mac at this stage (that is where he was playing for North when we recruited him).

On a separate note, rubbish coaching performance today. Questionable selections again. Also not really acceptable given the money sitting in that coaching box. 

Today my family went out for a terrific pub lunch anticipating the club had improved enough to finally beat St Kilda. Well the family enjoyed the lunch and went to Etihad.  The first quarter was great, then the rot set in.  I will take my family to many more Sunday pub lunches, but vow to never go back to watch this inconsistent rabble at Etihad.  I'm done with Etihad, I'm done with              continuing to watch brain fades and lack of effort by this club at Etihad.  There is not one single rational reason why this club cannot win at this ground against a side below them on the ladder.  Both coaching and playing groups failed badly every time they run out onto this ground.  It's not acceptable, and I like all of us am very damn annoyed at all in the MFC football department.  It ain't good enough anymore, on field leadership needs a clean out and Jonesy seems tired and slow. I was watching at city end, and the abysmal decision making by some senior players just blew me away.  NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE MFC. Time for heat to be put on leaders, we just screwed ourselves up the rear end on the ladder.

We are improving as a team, but improvement isn't always consistent or linear. Today was a step back, but at least the List Management department will be pleased - the decisions they have to make at the end of the year just got that much easier.

I thought Brayshaw was generally terrific. The only times he was ordinary was out in space. He just has no awareness. Which might explain why he's had three concussions in his very short AFL career.

He was coming back from a longish AFL lay off, with little VFL form, but I thought it was a real return to his 2015 form. Exciting for mine.

I'm sick of darwin being blamed, or tiredness. They had a bye a few weeks ago, on top of a long break leading into the Queens birthday game a month that back. It's irrelevant. It's a cop out excuse. They are trained professionals who had nearly 8 days turn around from kick off to kick off. 

If they are tired and didn't have the legs to run it out, then questions need to be asked of our fitness staff. That said; the fact we have ample fit players 3/4 the way through the season says to me that isn't the issue. 

For too long this club has used excuses to justify losses. You've seen it, I've seen it and anyone with half a brain can see it. 

Yes your decision making and execution get worse as you get tired, but playing in darwin 8 days ago is a cop out, used far too often for a group of players that just don't want to compete hard enough for long enough. 

Anb, bugg or whoever don't make a difference in the side when you have 15 players continuing to play dumb football  whilst failing to learn from their mistakes.

We had too many players who were "off" today. As Roos said (though it's obvious!) we don't have a margin for error, nor do we have a Dangerfield who's going to pop up with 4 goals and turn the game.

The rest ... sure, maybe, but for the most part, deck chairs.

I am absolutely fkn filthy... Havent been this pi$$ed off since that saints loss  at etihad last year. Im actually lost for words to be honest, I thought we'd move passed these performances as a club. The Darwin deal can go get [censored] while we are at it... So annoyed that this club makes me feel like this

I don't think we are, the teams we tend to beat are just slightly worse than us.

Even during today's game early on we weren't really playing better than St Kilda, we just capitalised while they didn't. The problem is, they were always going to start to convert so it was only a matter of time before they got on top.

It was dreadful. I wish I hadn't gone. The only upside was winning $30 by backing St Kilda.

I went to the Etihad match earlier this year. And quite a few of the other losses there to the Saints. 

I'm obviously into self flagellation.

Especially as the big knock on both of them is the lack of "hurt" factor in their disposal.

Agree with an earlier poster, we miss Salem's disposal off half-back. But feel like we need half a dozen players with Salem's disposal.

As frustrated as I am with Paul Roos gameplay, It was the new risky , play-on, attack through the corridor game of Simon Goodwin that left us vulnerable after 1/4 time today. I would have been relieved to see some real ugly Roos-style stoppage footy once the Saints started to flow on. We were too pooped to play the game style that we are training for.

Is he the next Daniel Bell?

A good young player who showed promise early on, only to end his career with almost no awareness after what turns out was multiple concussions.

This is very true, we can all see it, the media all see it, and yet the players and coaches are incapable of doing anything to change it.  This club lurches from wannabes to pretenders depending on who turns up each week.  Totally over this nonsense.  Today should have been a win full stop.

Nothing wrong with playing on, the problem is we either do it when it is the wrong option or when too close to the man on the mark.

Will be a tough finish to the season if we play like this more often, but I'm keen for Goodwin to take the reins for 2017 and see what he's made of.

It could be argued that now the seasons done for us Goodwin should take over reins now. This would give him the opportunity to try a few things his way to give us a jump at next year. Thoughts everyone?

I disagree - there is no point in him taking over now.  He continues to work with Roos and then, when the season finishes, he can take the reins and mould the side from the very beginning of the pre-season.

While today was disappointing I'm excited to see him take over and to have some of our younger players get another pre-season under their belts.  Today was a real let down but that doesn't mean the future isn't bright.

We have players with good disposal. I mean, we generally use the ball well. What we don't do, is use the best option either fast enough, or often enough. That's the difference. Watch the first quarter, we found space and link up play well. Good passages of play where we run and carry, or quick use of the footy made us break the lines. 

The 3rd quarters we gave to players in worse positions or under pressure and failed to run. Now is that lack of communication? Lack of awareness? Or lack of sticking to the plan? I don't know but it happened fsr too often today and has been a trend all year, which is what allowed st Kilda countless unchecked runs inside forward 50. And when you don't play a man on man defence, you're asking to be heavily scored against with that situation.

Gosh that was disappointing.  I felt so confident that today was the day and the side only built that up in the first quarter.  Just such a massive let down.

Great to see Angus Brayshaw back.  I'd started to forget.  Had that one unfortunate moment just before 3/4 time, but other than that was excellent, hard, fast and clean all game.  Shouldn't be left out from now forward.

I will throw a party when this club stops making nonsense excuses after a loss like that.  Roosy, Goodwin, Jackson and every other paid coach or footy dept person needs to spell it out that it's not acceptable.  Don't give us supporters bulldust platitudes. This one today is bad, very bad.

They were ahead of us in aggression at the ball and man by a few levels. As soon as their pressure lifted in the second we did not have enough confidence in our game plan and went back to hand balling to the next stationary person under pressure. Viney aside, we lacked leadership again. It all felt very deja vu to me.

Agree with the second part, but not really the first. Players like Harmes, Matt Jones, Kennedy, Hunt consistently manage to get the ball to go somewhere else than where they'd intended. Even N Jones and Viney aren't exempt.

I agree. It's time they just said it's unacceptable. When Port came out and said that, their players, specifically their leaders, responded. Of course, we have to balance that with the understanding that with so many young players, we will be inconsistent. But I thought our 'leaders' let us down today, so is it worth putting them to the sword publicly or just internally?
