Sure we may all want to rush the Weed along, but as yet he has not shown enough at VFL level.

Apart from Vardy, Vickery, Tomlinson and Daw would also potentially fill the forward/ruck spot that we need to find - so it's pleasing that a few names are starting to crop up as being forced to be on the move because we certainly have struggled in the past to get the most-sought after option - Hale was a classic example.

Great post and it says an awful lot about emotional bias.

Wiseblood is one of many.

Not to say that Vardy will be anything like Gawn, but Gawn not so long ago was struggling for senior games simply because he hadn't had a clean run at it. If you look at his injury history, it'd be on par with Vardy's if not worse than.

It's funny that posters completely ignore facts like that. As well as the Trengove one.

I'll back the club to bring in players who they think will help us move forward and it's fairly [censored] obvious that we need to add to our Ruck division. The fact that Spencer has only been given a one year extension says as much. 

Vardy has shown enough early days that he can play the game well both as a resting forward and ruckman. 

There are a host of players out there that would compliment our list in many ways and like we have with our midfield, we must now address both our ruck division and backline. Depth and talent.

Sounded like a good idea a month ago. Still does. we are currently playing watts as 2nd ruck. there is no other options.  Vardy is the perfect type we need.

I would inquire about Vardy. But I am more interested in Lobb and Wright. Not sure their contract status. But Gawn is absolutely dominant all over the ground - he can go back/forward, and have influence. Our second ruckman should be able to play forward, yet also hold down ruck full time. Vardy can barely get on the park - let alone hold down first ruck.

I'm more interested in tippet but your not going to get him. Likewise lobb or wright unless you want to give up a pick around 10. Vardy is gettable and has huge upside and fills a massive hole in our list. He's also a massive risk but to me he's worth it. He only needs to play full time ruck if Gawn went off injured during game. He needs to play full time fwd with 10min a Q in ruck. 

Anyway as you said I would inquire.

He's just not a terribly good player.  I don't see that we have room for him in our forward line.

I think we could do worse than get Vardy for cheap and hope he avoids injury. Over his career he's shown little glimpses and is now well behind the pecking order for senior selection. Tomlinson would also be a handy get given his situation out of the GWS side, giving us that link-up leading and marking even if he's not a goal kicker

With Smith as 1st ruck and Blicavs as an on-baller, Geelong have a logjam of fwd/rucks: Stanley, Clark, Vardy if they are all fit and with Hawkins there it seems that only one can play.  So there's likely to be some movement.

Vardy as a rookie as a punt ... if he gets delisted and passes a medical. Talented YES but his body is very FRAGILE.

You may be right Desspicable - however, I think we need to make sure we bring in players who will contribute now and be relied upon to do so on a consistent basis.  Vardy may be fit now but his history of injuries is terrible; with us now, hopefully, pushing for a finals spot in 2017, is he the bloke to take a punt on?

I do agree that Watts can't be the long term answer, but can we get someone else who can help now without the injury history?
