Changes vs Pies (Queens Birthday)

And it is only his left hand.  Doesn't stop him kicking, running, harassing etc etc.

Roos is probably messing with Buckley's head!!

Buckley can't ignore the possibility in his planning.  Diversionary tactic by Roos!

We will find out on Sunday/Monday.

Must be Crossy's Bone Broth special kicking in lol.

If he gets up it will be an amazing recovery and courage act by Viney.

He is built for these kind of games.

Wheres old dee now? Another uneducated comment.

I was thinking last night that it would be good if Viney could get back a week early for the Swans game.

This week would be even better!!!

Viney will be named in the 25 man squad, he's 50/50 to play accordingly to Roos.

So much for 4 weeks!

must have been the 4 to 2. that's a new one for misson

as crazy as it sounds i think he'll play, Jack is that tough and knows this is must win!

If Viney plays (I doubt it) then maybe it will be as a defensive forward. He would certainly increase the tackle count in the forward half and lock the ball in.

but he is (very much) left handed, lh, with a high % of handballs

Not the worst idea I've seen, rjay.  He could have short stints on the ball as well, but keeping him up forward means keeping him out of most contests and takes the pressure off him a little.

It's fantastic for us if he plays as I'm sure he can wear something protective on his hand.  The Pies will try and niggle him but that will only serve to fire him up even more and push him to have 40 contests possessions.

Not super convinced, He is a ball winner, I dont like having contested midfielders forward of the play. It's taking a big threat away from collingwood. If he was an outside runner then sure that would work but not with the role he plays. If he can't play his normal role then there are plenty banging on the door for spots that deserve to get a game.

The lad is made of concrete, what a machine. Really hope he plays, so long as he isn't risking something more long term.

I do like Wagner's poise. The way he finds the time to spot the best option and usually hit them up is particularly different to what JG can do.

Left-footers have that attraction.

I married a left footer. They can do all sorts of things which make them attractive.

Which knuckle is it?

From memory he was pointing to his middle finger on his right hand as he walked off the ground against Port.

They won't risk any further damage to the knuckle, but if the medicos rule out that possibility, he'll play.  Jack Viney doesn't feel pain!

Positive identification of the knuckle - see Ebert's face.

Roos: 'our job is to decide whether he can functionally perform the way we want him to play and we won't know that until Saturday morning.'

Whose job at the club is it to decide whether playing could aggravate the injury or cause longer-term damage? I hope they're not leaving it up to a character like Viney to self-report. And the question on which knuckle he injured is pertinent - is it a base knuckle or a middle one? Trying to mark or handball with an injured base knuckle is excruciating, especially of the middle or index fingers.

I for one think the idea is just this side of looney. A fractured knuckle will just be mending at 2-3 weeks. Why would you risk it ?  Seems daft

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
