Such a better effort than last week.

Tyson, Jones and Vince were enormous.  Gawn was good in the ruck and I felt like our backline played pretty well under the circumstances.

Our small forwards, however, were poor again.  Kent was better but I felt like Harmes had minimal impact and Garlett was woeful.

Trengove and Dawes will also be better for the run, and both make us a better side.

8 day break until we get to beat the Pies for the second time this year.

Mate Dawes was our second worst on field behind Garlett. Get your facts right and look at the stats.

Ben Ken would've had a much bigger impact then Dawes if playing.

Thought frost had some good moments, watts was very competitive. Dawes will be better for the run. Competed well on a rubbish day. Trengove got better as the game went on. Tyson Vince and Jones were great, but just couldn't get going in the last quarter.

We know we are getting closer which while frustrating, looks good for the future. But I really felt we needed to win that for reward for effort. To destroy the reigning premiers in clearances and contested disposal is a positive. Just run out of gas.

Dont usually post this early but we did well. Outdone by an experienced team.

Umpiring was [censored] but the inclusions made us a better team. Really really missed Viney badly.

Stats tell everything, do they?  He competed hard and provided a contest all day.  He might not have clunked a few but I didn't see him drop any sitters.  The Hawthorn defence played him well.

At least I won't be making any ludicrious assumptions like you do.  Maybe if we played a Robbie Flower in his prime, or brought back '94 Ox and we would have won?  Please.

Chris Dawes cannot play again. His inability to take marks directly resulted in 4 goals that I counted. Absolute disgrace.

Look I don't know what you watched, he presented well in a horrid day for tall forwards. We went to him and he competed. Not sure if you noticed but hogan gawn and watts all didn't take a lot of contested marks...

So…how long till we can start blaming Trengove for our losses again? Because I'm getting ready to start finding a new bunch of scapegoats. McDonald and the Umpires are getting boring.

It will be Dawes until he can take a mark

Love to know goals from turnovers...

Dawes didn't cost us the game, but pedo marks a few and kicks the odd goal. Pedo must come in next week.

Back line looked small...

Their 3 last quarter goals resulted from direct turnovers by us.

People saying Dawes played bad obviously don't know much about footy.

If Tom McDonald want to earn the big bucks he needs to pick up his game dramatically.

Tyson and Vince know how to play wet weather footy.

On the Dawes debate, I think his first half was good. He was at a lot of contests, halved most and clunked a couple. He faded in the second a little, probably to be expected.

Tmac should never try and pick the ball up in th wet. So so poor.

Jeffy should never play if it's wet, Stretch and Harmes were not great either.  Can Hogan actually tackle? He is worse than Watts use to be, he doesn't even try and tackle.

When he was being tackled and arms chopped? Should have got at least 2 important frees

Roos needs to say at the presser that those pr1cks got all those head high frees from ducking. That one in the goal square in the last quarter when scores were level was a disgrace. One point in those conditions was enough to kill the game.

McDonald can start by picking up the footy, unbelievable how he is so bad at it.

That was frustrating. A really good opportunity to knock them off. If Harmes shot in the last doesn't hit the post, I think we might have won that.

We battered them around the ball.

Dawes only took one mark. Our other talls deal with defenders defending. Dawes needs to learn to also and not use it as an excuse

Could see clearly that Tmac fumbled when a player was running at him from the front - footsteps more than once -man up and take the hit and the ball Tommy .

Hate losing to that [censored] club!

Effort was there & played great footy, but dumb mistakes continue eg not punching & trying to mark in the backline Ffs that should be non negotioble, too many touches need to get it fwd faster in the wet!

Exp counted Average games 125 vs 63

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
